About This Video

Jesus of Nazareth lived a life of love and compassion, amidst presenting unvarnished truth, which ultimately led to his crucifixion, fulfilling God's will to redeem humanity through his sacrifice, as evidenced by scriptures like Isaiah 53:10 and Galatians 3:13. This act of love reconciles believers to God, purifies their conscience, and empowers them to lead lives that bear fruit, as highlighted in John 3:16, Colossians 1:22, and Romans 7:4.

Jesus Christ's suffering, death, and resurrection form the foundation of Christian faith, granting believers righteousness, deliverance from evil, access to holy places, and liberation from ancestral futility. His sacrifice unites believers, reconciles all peoples to God, disarms authorities, fulfills God's will, and becomes a source of eternal hope and Christian boasting.

Through His death, Jesus assures us of His constant presence and provides us with a new identity to live by faith, transforming us into a community eager for good works driven by love towards God and others. This profound love empowers us to live for Christ, dedicating our lives to fulfilling His purpose rather than our own desires.

The Love and Sacrifice of Jesus

SHORT SHOW 22S Take Him In
Taped March 7th 2021
Aired Monday Night March 8th 2021

“God with us in the Man Jesus of Nazareth.” I want to talk about Him through scripture and what He means to us. His innocent life filled with love and compassion for the lost, the blind, and the captive to sin and this fallen world. And yet without hesitation He presented TRUTH unvarnished to all who would hear – especially to the seekers. His love (which lead to His popularity among the lost) and His Truth (which lead to the religious leaders hating Him) culminated in a secret unwarranted arrest…

  • A fixed and unjust trial by night.
  • False witness against His person.
  • Slaps, spit, mockery.
  • A crown of thorns pushed into His brow.
  • A purple robe.
  • “full-throttle lashes from the trained arm a Roman soldier.
  • A heavy wooden cross to bear.
  • Nails driven through His feet and hands…
  • Innocent blood flowing…
  • And lifted above the very earth He created… and… and then the brutal death of the only human being to ever live… who did not deserve to die.

Understanding Jesus' Sacrifice

Why? We know the essentials. First, I would suggest that the primary reason Jesus did what He did was because of His love for the Father who willed it. Isaiah 53:10 says, “Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.” And why did God “will” that His only begotten Son “suffer, bleed and die?”

1 John 4:10 tells us, saying: “In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” Additionally, we recognize: John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” What did God’s love for us have to do with sending His Son to suffer for us? Jesus came and suffered to “redeem us from the Curse of God’s perfect Law.”

The Ransom for Our Sins

Galatians 3:13 – Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us — for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree.” Can you believe the love of God and the Son? He became a curse on our behalf! And through His suffering and death He sought to bring us to God! 1 Peter 3:18 – For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit. How did this work? Listen – Jesus essentially became our… “ransom.” Jesus said in Mark 10:45: “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” And He paid the ransom with???? His innocent blood.

In Matthew 26:28 Jesus said: “for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. We know that believing on His shed blood reconciles us to God. Romans 5:10 – For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son… And in addition to being reconciled we are also made Holy, Blameless, and Perfect. Colossians 1:22 – he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him.

An amazing result of this fact is our consciences are made clear: Hebrews 9:14 – how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God. And then, knowing we are blameless and holy and of “clear consciences,” we are, through His suffering, shed blood and death, reconciled IN ORDER (listen) IN ORDER to… bear fruit!

A New Life in Christ

Romans 7:4 – Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God. And in bearing fruit unto God through the suffering of Christ we have a new, unencumbered life: Colossians 2:13 says: “And you, who were dead in

The Purpose of Christ's Suffering

“…your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses.” And though spiritually free, amidst the trials of our physical Christian walk, we know by and through His suffering we can find solace:

Isaiah 53:5 – But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed.

This solace is so far-reaching that we even have comfort – even longing – for physical death (rather than fear) because by and through His death we are assured of resurrection to a new Kingdom above.

Romans 6:5 – For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.

Therein lies the essentials of WHY God sent His Son to suffer, bleed, and die for you and I. But there are a number of other amazing and often unspoken purposes our King took to the insufferable cross.

Righteousness and Redemption through Christ

Did you know that His taking on our form and humbly submitting to all of the Father’s will He becomes OUR righteousness?

Philippians 2:8 – And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Romans 5:19 – For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.

2 Corinthians 5:21 – For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Philippians 3:9 – and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith —

Did you know that His suffering “delivers those who believe” from the “present evil surrounding us?

Galatians 1:4 – who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,

Access to Holiness and Freedom from Futility

That His suffering gives us confident access to the Holiest Place?

Hebrews 10:19 – Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus,

Did you know that His suffering frees us from the futility of our ancestral ways (even our DNA)?

1 Peter 1:18-19 – knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, (19) but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.

Did you know His work on the cross “disarmed world rulers and authorities?”

Colossians 2:14-15 – by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. (15) He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.

That He destroyed the hostility that exists between races and peoples?

Ephesians 2:14-16 – For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility (15) by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, (16) and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.

That His work ransomed people from every tribe, language, people, and nation?

Revelation 5:9 – And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation,

The Cross and Its Significance

That His suffering on the cross becomes the basis for all Christian boasting?

Galatians 6:14 – “But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”

That His giving up His life gives marriage its deepest meaning?

Ephesians 5:25 – “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”

Did you know the emblem or His death – the cross – creates an army of people willing to also be crucified to their flesh?

Luke 9:23 – And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”

The Assurance of Christ's Death

1 Thessalonians 5:10 – who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him.

His death gives each of us a new identity. Galatians 2:20 – I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. This new identity makes us part of a people who are passionate for good works.

Zealous for Good Works

Titus 2:14 – who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. Because of His death these good works are totally and ultimately completely expressed in love toward God and our fellow man. Ephesians 5:2 – “And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” It is this kind of love that enables us to live for Christ and not ourselves.

Living for Christ

2 Corinthians 5:15 – and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.
