The Book of Jeremiah lays out so much in terms of YAHAVAH and how He sees the rebellious nature of Israel his bride. I want to point out two main themes that many bible addicts overlook.

In our earlier (2^nd Part) we learned how God entered into a marriage contract (called the Ketubah) with Israel and how the first ten words are so significant to that – which, as we stated, we followed by the giving of the Law and which the Jews started to worship. 

Well, after centuries of rebellion and running after other partners, YAHAVAH will say in Jeremiah 3:8

“And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also. “

We remember that this was not the first affair that the Nation had with other gods – in fact, within forty days of writing the ketubah contract she went out on God with a golden calf, right?  We’ll here in Jeremiah, God decrees a divorce from her. This sets up one of the reasons the Messiah came when He did, came to His own, and called the righteous lost sheep from the House of Israel to be His Bride in that day.

Now a lot was happening in that time as a means to wrap up everything prophesied and practiced, but in Jeremiah again, God describes what He was going to do ONCE His Son had overcome everything.  As we read this notice how God describes His New Testament and how it is not a collection of books!  Ready?  This is how God himself describes what He will do once Yeshua overcame sin, death, Satan and hell and fulfilled the Law and the Prophets (Jeremiah 31:31-34):

Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new (testament) with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:  But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.  

What do we learn from these passages?

First, that what Christians call the New Testament (which is a collection of writings from the Apostles) God describes it as a time when He would write His laws on the hearts and minds (ostensibly) of True Israel, which is on the hearts and minds of people of faith. It was men (Tertullian and others) who popularized the term, New Testament when referring to the collection of books that is is a flat-out contradiction of God’s own description of Him writing His laws (which are faith and love by the way) on the hearts and minds of people!

We note that God Himself says that this will NOT be like it was when He took Israel by the hand and lead her out of Egypt (which covenant they BROKE) but that it would be different!  It would be different how?  He says that He will WRITE (not that men would write, but that He would write) upon the Hearts and Minds of true Israel. Will He write on paper, stone, papyri?  No.  On hearts and minds.

Right there, if you are addicted to the Bible, you have a reason from Gods mouth to your ear to set it aside and start listening to the Words He writes on your heart and mind. Now listen, this is where the value of the written words come into play for us because whatever words we feel or think or believe God has written on our hearts and minds (which, by the way, would be written ONLY by the finger of the Spirit) they would always accord with what has been written.  How to tell?  How to interpret the Words written?  How to know if what you are thinking come from the Words God has written or if they are from your own mind, will and imagination?

By whether what you are thinking can be fully supported by the fruit of His Love.

See, Paul wrote the following in Galatians 5 and said,

“But the fruit of the Spirit is Love” (and then I believe he added a bunch of words to describe such love, saying, again, “that the fruit of the Spirit is Love . . . (,)”

“joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”

So, you are walking along one day and you see an attractive woman or man and you desire to have them – let’s say it’s a woman – and you are already married.  Well, you COULD actually use the Bible text to support polygamy, right?  You actually could.  But, since the fruit of the Spirit is love, you would know that this choice of interpretation of the Bible would be wrong because it would NOT show love to your spouse, children, community or those who may be in the life of the woman you desire.

This is what God described as doing once Yeshua had the victory – implementing a wholly by the Spirit method of leading and guiding those who are His FROM WITHIN!

And this approach leaves every single person living and walking with God according to the Spirit (which is love) and His Laws that He has written in their hearts and minds.

Suppose that you meet a person who walks by this spirit and the Law God has written on their hearts and you are doing the same, and you are having lunch and the subject of divorce comes up between you.  One of you sees divorce as forbidden and the other sees it as reasonable.  The written scripture does NOT solve your differences so what should?

The Law written by the Spirit on your heart by God – which is love.  And so, you accept your lunch dates faith and embrace them with agape love despite your differences, and move along.  Why has God set it up this way?  Because the letter kills.  The Law brings death because by the Law we become sinners!

If we appeal to a bunch of written laws on paper that were never intended to be used as legal evidence we will forever be addicted to the written words, accusing and judging everyone around us.  So God Himself wrote all the way back in Jeremiah, “No!”  I will not continue to do that which I did with the Nations fathers when I took them and led them by the hand from out of Bondage!

No! YAHAVAH proclaims,

“But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

Then listen to what else God adds to this description of the New Covenant He would make! 

“And they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

How many of you think you should be under the teachings of a pastor, pope, priest, prophet, reverend, Bishop of some sort – adhering to their every word, absorbing their views and traditions to be right with God when right here the Living God Himself says that in this age,

“And they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them.”

Can we gather to learn and study?  Of course. But what God writes on the individual’s heart and mind are what guide nothing more – not in this His new economy.  So, even at this point in Jeremiah this time had not yet fallen upon the earth.  Yeshua the Anointed, God with us, needed to arrive on the scene which is the biblical indication that the end of all of the former age of Israel and the Law written with ink, on stone or paper would end.
