Comparing the TVOS and the PVOS

I want to talk tonight about the TVOS (Traditional view of Scripture) versus the PVOS (the Proper View of Scripture).

Ready? There are TWELVE COMPARISONS.

The TRADITIONAL VIEW of SCRIPTURE says that it was written to us today. THE PROPER VIEW OF SCRIPTURE says that it was written to those believers in that age with some application to us today. The Traditional View sees it as applicable literally to each of us now, whereas the Proper View sees it as applicable to us now in principle and themes. The Traditional View considers it a manual on how to do Christianity objectively. Conversely, the Proper View sees it as a spiritual map full of spiritual principles on how to know God and walk the Christian walk subjectively.

Key Differences

The Traditional View is full of rules, while the Proper View is full of wisdom and insights. It tells people how things must be, whereas the Proper View tells people how things were and will be in the lives of those who walk by faith. In the Traditional View, faith is objective – there is a way! Do it! In the Proper View, faith is subjective.

Believers are entitled to hate, look down on or despise others based on its contents according to the Traditional View, while the Proper View commands believers to love all people with agape love at all times in His name. It offers regiments that confine its reader, but the Proper View liberates the reader through truth and agape love. The Traditional View divides believers one from another through denominationalism, whereas the Proper View unites all believers of Christ in love. The Traditional View quenches the Spirit, while the Proper View invites and does not hinder the Spirit.

Eschatology and Doctrine

The Traditional View reveals an anachronistic eschatology, while the Proper View supports a reasonable and fulfilled eschatology. The Traditional View takes ten passages out of thousands and concocts the “man-made, must be taught” doctrine of the Trinity. In contrast, the Proper View proves that there is one God, the Father, and one Lord Jesus Christ.

The Word of God is living, and when read by the Spirit works with each individual on what God wants to do in their lives. Men have made the Word of God dead by interpreting it as a set of rules and religious mandates.

Write your comments below! We will read them on our Heart of the Matter long shows on Tuesday nights!
