A careful study of the Apostolic Record reveals the fact that when Jesus would return to earth that he would come with His Kingdom and His Reign would begin, fully inaugurated in heaven and on earth.
Paul wrote to Timothy in 2nd Timothy 4 and said at verse 1
“I charge you therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead (the living and the dead) at his appearing and his kingdom.”
Because people believe this materially and literally, thinking that “his kingdom” would be visible and operational in the world, they do not believe it possible to have already to have taken place. But we remember that Jesus himself said that His Kingdom comes “without observation,” and that “the Kingdom of GodGod’s spiritual reign—fulfilled and present, not political or future. is within us,” and that when material religionA fulfilled system of temples, rituals, and laws—replaced by direct spiritual relationship. was consummately destroyed at his coming in 70 AD His Spiritual Kingdom, established in the New JerusalemThe spiritual reality of God's fulfilled presence with humanity—replacing Sheol after 70 A.D. (which is above) would reign in the hearts of true believers from that point forward and forevermore, as there “will be not end to the increase of his Kingdom.” (Isaiah 9:6)
Living in His Kingdom
So, I want to ask you, right now – YOU – the one listening to my voice, are you living in His Kingdom? Is the Kingdom of God within you? Does it reign over you and your life? Do you find that you have a grounded citizenship there or are you still focused on the principles and ways of the Kingdoms of this world?
I want to personally want to extend to you an invitation – come in and join the Kingdom above. Step in with both feet and let the Lord God Almighty reign in, over, and through you here.
Balancing Material and Spiritual Life
It might seem impossible; it might appear to be unrewarding or too dualistic for you since we all know we are living in flesh, and managing our material lives – but I want to encourage you and let you know that it is possible to have both feet in the Kingdom above while here – and I want to take just a moment to explain what it’s like – at least for me.
This world has demands, expectations, and as a former member of it I know what it's like to try and meet those demands and expectations – even as a Christian. This world operates through activities and attitudes that are not part of His Kingdom or those who are of it; it calls to and appeals to self, and works of stress, and relentlessly demands for more. More sex, more drink, more clothes, more money, more taxes, more property, more friends, more fame.
His kingdom demands not for more of this world neither does it demand for less. It deals with what is. It takes us from the realms of dissatisfaction in the flesh, and introduces gratitude and satisfaction; it peaceably allows us to accept what we are in Him and to have with humility and graciousness, all the while giving us a gentle thirst for “heavenly more” more light, more love, more insights, more patience, more forgiveness, more longsuffering.
His kingdom moves us away from the profane and into “realms of sacred” while illuminating the differences between the two. His Kingdom here is not based on monasticism nor asceticism but in living actual material lives among others with an inner peace and joy that transcends the anxieties and frustrations in the world around us. His Kingdom, in fact He, is accessed by His Spirit, is made known and described through His scripture and is evidenced in and through selfless, agape loveSelfless love marked by patience, mercy, and humility—central to living in spiritual liberty., which is the essential component of personal liberties.
The Value of His Kingdom
There are ten billion other Kingdoms out there in the universe, all vying to have you as a member. Their pull is strong and promising and alluring. But His Kingdom is truly not of this world while paradoxically is present in this world – and citizenship in it, while we are housed in bodies of decaying flesh, is of incalculable value to any and all desiring to know and serve Him.
