Encouraging the Search for Deeper Understanding
This short show is a call to encourage “seeking.” It’s a challenge to get you to go deeper in your search to know the true and living God and His Son. It’s a call to encourage to challenge what you have been taught—from me too, to open up the Bible, ask God for wisdom and insight, and to let the Spirit lead as you consider what you read. It’s a call to put away the pureed baby food and milk, and to become meat eaters.
The Importance of Seeking
Ever bring up a subject to other believers and have someone say, “We’ll I don’t even care about any of that—it’s not important. I just gonna follow Jesus?” I hear it all the time. But let me ask you something. If other things aren’t important, why are they there? And why does God keep them a mystery to the unseeking eye? Why did Jesus speak in parables, and why did the writer of Hebrews, after mentioning the Jesus was called a high priest after the order of Melchizedec, say:
11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. 12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
And then go even farther and open up chapter 6 with:
Hebrews 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 3 And this will we do, if God permit.
Building on the Foundation
To reject the opportunities to grow and chew and digest on the deeper things, once the foundation of the Gospel is set, is like a grown adult refusing to eat a nice thick steak because it’s too much work to chew and instead will only eat baby food—and then rejects anyone who wants to talk about more complex ideas. Don’t get me wrong here! We rejoice in the foundation and build upon it—but we do build. And dig deep.
And I am not talking about digging for unknowables or mysteries that cannot be found—like the nature of the Nephilim or if Adam had a belly button or if Alien life exists. Gospel truths. Based in sound biblically based content. Good for us.
Imagine your spouse loves a nice steak for dinner. And their birthday is coming up and you save up and invite a couple to join you at Mortons or Ruth’s Chris. And you preselect the menu pre-fixe, which means it’s a set price for a set meal. And the menu includes a filet, mashed potatoes, pureed peas, a drink and dessert. And when the meal is served one of your guests . . . . Wrap it.
