About This Video
In this episode, Shawn McCraney discusses the marketing strategy of the "Man of Steel" movie to Christian pastors, expressing his discomfort with churches using Hollywood films to draw parallels to Jesus, as it can lead believers astray from studying the Bible. He emphasizes that pastors should focus on teaching the Word of God, rather than promoting secular narratives, to ensure that their congregations are guided by Scripture rather than media influences.
Shawn highlights the persistence of Christian persecution in 50 countries where believers are restricted from owning a Bible, facing harassment and even death, encouraging prayer and support through organizations like persecution.com. Additionally, he discusses how the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) is adept in church organization but suggests they focus on biblical teachings to align more closely with the teachings of Christ.
In this teaching, Shawn argues that while the LDS Church's organizational model for conducting church activities can be insightful, it is crucial to avoid their methods that prioritize institutional progress over individual and family well-being. Furthermore, he emphasizes that contrary to certain doctrinal beliefs, scripture indicates believers can lose their salvation by abandoning faith, supported by passages such as John 15, which underscores the need for continual faith and bearing spiritual fruit.
The teaching emphasizes that genuine believers can still fall away from faith if they become fruitless or turn away from their initial commitment, as illustrated through biblical verses like John 15:6, 1 Timothy 4:1, and Colossians 1:23. Maintaining faith through continual growth and adherence to the gospel is crucial for believers to remain fruitful and steadfast in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
Shawn's teaching emphasizes the necessity of maintaining faith for believers to ensure their salvation, as illustrated through scriptural passages from Peter, Paul, and Hebrews that warn against falling away or returning to sin. He challenges the notion of unconditional election by highlighting the importance of continuous faithfulness and righteousness to remain within the favor and blessing of God, applicable to all believers.
Shawn emphasizes that the biblical model of the church involves knowing the congregation personally, engaging in fellowship, prayer, and worship, and highlights the importance of being in the word of God and discipleship for spiritual growth. He advises Christians, particularly those leaving Mormonism, to select a church focused on teaching the word authentically and warns against adhering to legalistic practices not rooted in sound biblical exegesis.
The teaching emphasizes that ministries should focus on genuine spiritual growth rather than accumulating wealth, reflecting on the notion that churches today prioritize financial prosperity similar to Laodicea's failings in Revelation. It questions whether shifting focus from addressing specific religious groups like the LDS to broader Evangelical causes might diverge from one’s calling and stresses maintaining a ministry's true path without succumbing to external pressures or envy.
The teaching emphasizes the importance of financial accountability within influential organizations, criticizing those with potentially misused or unaccounted funds, like LDS, suggesting they should compensate direct descendants of victims, like the Fancher Baker descendants. It also highlights concerns about modern religious institutions focusing too much on monetary gain over spiritual missions, reflecting a potential shift in values within the Church during the age of Grace.

Heart of the Matter: Show 16 – The Best Church Model Part IV
Live from the Mecca of Mormonism (and the Factory here in Salt Lake City, Utah) this is Heart of the MatterTGNN’s original show where Shawn McCraney deconstructed religion and developed fulfilled theology., where Biblical Christianity meets American Evangelicalism Face to Face.
June 18th 2013
And I’m your host, Shawn McCraneyFounder of TGNN and developer of the fulfilled perspective—calling people to faith outside of religion.. We praise the True and Living God for allowing us to participate in this, His ministry. We pray His Spirit upon you – and us – tonight.
Couple of quick announcements. First, we’re having an open house this coming Sunday from 6-8 here at the Factory in Salt Lake City. We want to expose the churches and ministries in the state to our facilities which we have, in part, created for them and their use. That’s this Sunday night, June 23rd 2013, from 6 to 8 pm.
Secondly, we have a number of websites that may be of interest to you.

Superman in Religious Discussions
Emailer and viewer Dale M sent us this article from CNN. It was written by Eric Marrapodi, Co-Editor of the CNN Belief Blog: The headline "Superman: Flying to a church near you." Baltimore, Maryland (CNN) – As the new Superman movie takes flight this weekend, filmmakers are hoping the Man of Steel lands not only in theaters, but also in pulpits. Warner Bros. Studios is aggressively marketing "Man of Steel" to Christian pastors, inviting them to early screenings, creating Father’s Day discussion guides and producing special film trailers that focus on the faith-friendly angles of the movie. The movie studio even asked a theologian to provide sermon notes for pastors who want to preach about Superman on Sunday. Titled “Jesus: The Original Superhero,” the notes run nine pages. “How might the story of Superman awaken our passion for the greatest hero who ever lived and died and rose again?” the sermon notes ask.
Potential Risks of Using Popular Culture in Sermons
The article goes on with other interesting facts and citations. Dale, who forwarded this article to us asked, “what do you think about this?” That is a more difficult question than it might seem. On the positive side, I believe most things speak of Christ in one way or another. I find inspiration for Him in music and film people would otherwise shun. With Him being the “Savior of the World,” and a light shining in the dark, one upon whom the human race seeks, we are bound to discover archetypical figures of Him in almost every fictional narrative. And when these things “speak” of Him (even when the creators don’t realize they do) I am always encouraged in my walk.
But I do take issue when Time Warner and their subsidiaries make calculated efforts to appeal to the message in films and then try and market the attempt – especially from the pulpit. The reason is when the Body gets in bed with the world, the Body gets pregnant with a bastard child, not truth. Pulpits have no business promoting or denouncing anything related to the beggarly elements of this fallen world. Pastors are called to feed their flocks by teaching the word, not promoting Hollywood films – no matter how good or relatable they appear to Christianity – or pushing politics or fighting social evils. Teaching the Word and letting the Word govern the decisions of the congregates. If I walked into a church with my family, hoping to be fed and was shown a Superman promo I’d leave.
Finally, Satan is pretty smart. Superman is a fictitious character. To liken Him to the life and work of our real Lord we cross over onto a very slippery slope. Additionally, we note that Jesus, our Lord and King, was the antithesis of a superhero. He was unattractive, he had nothing men would desire of Him, he couldn’t even carry his own cross all the way to Calvary – to liken Him to a superman of steel misses the mark of our King and Savior – who saved us by and through love. When Christians justify these comparatives from the pulpit they are in the very same boat as the LDS who teach their “other gospel” using archetypes like Nephi, Alma, and Captain Moroni – creations men have created that appeal to the flesh through the strength and power in fictional men, not our Lord of flesh who overcame all things by spirit, truth, and love. All part of an expected path though.
Reflections on a Personal Email
Received a tremendous email but it was impressive for reasons I don’t think it was written in the first place. It’s from Kay, and says: We recently did a study with my Mormon friend. My other friend leading the study did
Differences in Beliefs on Marriage and the Persecution of Christians
Our study session touched on a key difference between traditional Christian doctrine and Mormon beliefs regarding marriage. A Mormon friend asserted, "In my church, our doctrine is marriage is for all eternity. Just throwing that out there." On the bright side, she did recognize that the Bible and the Mormon church differ on this topic. However, there seems to be a lack of realization that this stance denies the words of Christ. How can I lovingly show her this?
This brings us to another pressing issue.
This is an email we received from our friend Dr. Allen out in Colorado:
Did you know that Christians are persecuted today? Many of us take for granted the freedom to read our Bible and worship at church or in home meetings, but are you aware that in 50 countries, our brother and sister Christians are not allowed to own a Bible or other Christian literature and are harassed, imprisoned, and even killed if they attend meetings or worship in their homes? I was shocked to learn that deadly persecution of Christians isn’t a thing of the past but an everyday occurrence all over the world.
Persecution of Christians
Please keep the persecuted Body of Christ in your daily prayers and learn more about our sisters and brothers in bondage. Consider writing imprisoned Saints letters of encouragement. A good place to start is www.persecution.com. We checked out this ministry and were amazed by its history and purpose. While we are in need of your support, we cannot help but try to motivate you to visit www.persecution.com and see what they are all about.
I am of the opinion that when people know and realize what is going on all over the world to true Christians it may help some of us (especially here in the United States) get serious and reject many of the trappings of modern American Evangelicalism (the prosperity, the self-focus, the me, me Christianity) and start praying and supporting their brothers and sisters who are in bonds throughout the world. Thanks, Allan.
And with that, let’s have a word of prayer.
Church Practices and Doctrinal Impacts
Over the past few weeks, I have maintained that the manner in which churches “do church” (with one exception) is directly related to their doctrines of soteriology or how a person is saved. In an earlier program, I proposed that the religious institution which does church best relative to the biblical model are the Mormons or the LDS.
Darrin wrote in and related to this opinion:
Shawn,
When you first said that the LDS Church is the best modern model of biblical church on the local level I was not sure. However, after I thought about it, I realized that it made excellent sense. After giving it some thought, I realized that this is a major factor of what I find attractive about the LDS Church. I have never been a member but I attended some wards and branches at times to get a better understanding of the LDS people. During this process, I had thoughts of joining the LDS Church but quickly decided against it due to the heretical teaching about the relationship between God and mankind. I thought that if the core doctrines were made biblical from the top down that I would likely join.
He then lists some of the organizational elements present in Mormonism that he admires, including “their organized missionary efforts” (that surpass any Christian church of which I am aware), “that LDS Investigators can be educated on the basics at any ward's gospel principles class,” “that the size of the uniform chapels allow for a set number of members prior to expanding into other wards and this size is manageable for the bishop to tend the flock,” and “that all of the members join in together with the Priesthood and Relief Society helping fellow members.”
In the end, Darren adds: “I agree that all of those combined factors on the local level are the most biblical enactment that I've seen in any modern church. I just pray that their core doctrines will be corrected.”
Agreed, Darrin. I mean, just imagine if Mormonism took their fake history, their non-biblical, man-made doctrines and set it all aside and chose to teach biblical Christianity using their organizational form and methods. I pray for the day when enough LDS leaders will rise up and implement such a change. But let’s not
Mormon Church Organization and Christian Salvations
Stop there! And imagine if other humble denominations and their pastors allowed themselves to be tutored by the LDS and applied their methods to doing church. The Bible and only the Bible, Jesus and only Jesus, being the true focus of every primary, mutual, Elder’s quorum and High Priest teaching, of every Relief Society class, of every sacrament meeting, seminary class, and Home Teaching visit.
Now, admittedly, there is a price – in fact a very heavy price – for belonging to the Mormon church today. I am NOT suggesting the methods they use presently to KEEP things running be embraced. These methods literally use people to grease the wheels of ward and stake’s progress. Guilt is abundant. Burn-out common, families are NOT put first, and God’s name is used by men to have their way. Maybe these things, in the end, are what makes them a world power. But I think we can safely says the same things go on in what we would call Christian churches today, right?
Christian Church Models
No, all I am saying is that if Mormonism never changes their doctrine, we can look to the model and methods on how they organized doing church. And I suggest this because I believe the model in many cases (not all, but many) used in Christian churches today are missing the mark – and it’s the people who suffer as a result. One more time – there would nothing wrong with the manner in which ANY Christian church does church IF people are saved and 1) that is all there is to it, and 2) they can never walk from their salvation. But scripture teaches otherwise and because it teaches otherwise church must function in a whole bunch of different ways than just giving people “the Jesus experience” week in and week out.
We will get to what else is important to the Christian walk besides the salvation moment next week but tonight I want to give you all my biblical defense of why people who have been believers can walk from salvation – and that walking from salvation means abandoning FAITH. I’m going to build a case using some of the weaker passages for support (which are still good) and get to the better ones before we go to the phones.
Jesus's Teachings on Faith and Salvation
Let’s start with the words of Jesus. Now, it would be really easy to apply His teachings in the Gospels to prove my points, but it would also be unfair – Jesus teachings were primarily to the House of Israel in His coming to them as the Messiah. We appeal to them today, of course, but they must be understood contextually. This being said, He does give us a most astounding study/parable in John 15. I don’t know how anybody of a sound and HONEST mind can read this and believe they are saved and unable to walk from their salvation. Ready:
John 15:1-6
John 15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now, I have heard people justify these passages by saying that the branches that are taken away by the Father were never really believers in the first place. But Jesus Himself says it clearly: “I AM the true vine . . . every branch IN ME . . .” This certainly would be describing atheists or Hindus – a branch that it IN HIM is IN HIM by faith in Him. To say otherwise is intellectual dishonesty.
We must also note that He is speaking to His eleven disciples at this moment – Judas is gone. And he says: 3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. In these words we discover an expectation of fruit bearing that Jesus places upon those who are IN Him (as the vine). They are IN HIM. (verse 5) The fruit is always fruits of love. Nevertheless, those who are His will bear fruit. He goes on, saying: 5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. (READY?) 6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast
Abiding in Faith
Now listen, some have tried to say that where Jesus says, “If a man abide not in me” he is speaking of those who never were in Him. That is not contextually sound. Also, read what it says afterward, “he is cast forth AS A BRANCH! There is no way to be a branch of a vine unless you were at sometime IN the vine! The premise is clear: He is the vine, you believed IN Him and grew from that vine as a branch but because you were fruitless, the Father cut you off and you withered and were cast away. He concludes:
7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. 8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
Departing from Faith
In 1st Timothy 4:1 Paul writes: “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” How do you depart from “the faith” if you never were ”in the faith,” or “of the faith,” or “in possession of the faith?” Walk from faith – saving faith – walk from salvation.
Continuing in the Faith
The next set of passages to consider are in the first chapter of Colossians. Read with me beginning at verse 20:
Colossians 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. 21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled in the body of his flesh through deathSeparation from God—now overcome. Physical death remains, but it no longer separates us from life with God., to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight
Now at this point we can see he is speaking to believers. In verse 20 he describes how and who did the saving – Jesus, by the cross. Then in verse 21 he writes, And YOU hath he reconciled. So we know we are talking about believers.
Now listen to verse 22 and 23 together, Ready?
21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight 23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister.
First Faith
I do not hear the doctrine of eternal security made here. If you do, explain what kind of mental gymnastics you have to do to make it work.
Then in first Timothy 5:11 Paul writes and says:
11 “But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry; 12 Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith. 13 And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. 14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. 15 For some are already turned aside after Satan.”
Again, how do you cast off your first faith? How does a believer “turn-aside” after Satan? I know of no other way than to have been in a first faith, having been on the path, and then turning aside from faith?
2nd Peter 1:5-11 presents us with yet another description of what I have been trying to convey.
In verses 1-4 Peter gives a description of the salvation enjoyed and enjoined by faith given by God, and then at verse 5 says:
5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. (listen now) 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
Assurance in Faith
The rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
If we stopped at verse 10 we could argue that when Peter says, If you do these things ye shall never fall from being fruitful and productive Christians, but verse eleven suggests that more is tied to the idea of “falling” when he says:
11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
Admittedly, these passages are not as strong as others, but in my opinion, Peter taps plainly into the idea that salvation – a gift of grace by faith – is predicated on maintaining faith.
Faith and Life Through the Spirit
But when I read these passages I hear and see a model presented for those who abide in faith. Paul’s letter is to believers in Rome – not to the unsaved. And these are some passages for your consideration:
Romans 8:10 And if Christ be in you (have you noticed the presence of IF in all of these passages?) And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sinMissing the mark of faith and love—no punishment, just lost growth or peace.; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. 12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
(Preach it here.)
Again, speaking to the believers in Rome, listen to what Paul said in Romans 11:22:
“Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them (the Jews) which fell, severity; but toward thee (the Gentile converts), goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.”
Doesn’t sound like unconditional election to me.
Warnings Against Falling Away
Last week we gave you 2nd Peter 2:20-21 and for mean, it doesn’t get too much more plain:
“For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.”
And then of course we have the Hebrew passages. Now the argument has been made that Hebrews is a books written for Jews of faith ONLY and applies ONLY to their day and age.
I would stand by 2nd Timothy 3:16 which says: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” Having said this, and considering Hebrews part of scripture, and considering that all believers are “men of God,” I would strongly suggest that its contents are absolutely applicable to those in the church today.
We covered chapter three but let me give you the highlight passages again:
Hebrews 3:6 says:
“But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.”
And Hebrews 3:12-14
Hebrew 3:12-13 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. Let those who have ears to hear hear.
Hebrews 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. 39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
This one can be debated, I admit, because of the context and verse 39’s addition. But the just shall live by faith BUT IF any man draw back FROM faith, God says His soul has no pleasure in him.
How to draw back
Understanding Church Models in Scripture
There is a reason we have a number of biblical models of what church consists of in scripture. Size is tacitly limited by the model of the flock, the Shepherd knowing the sheeps names, and there being no hirelings. "Hearing the Word" taught is a precedent as it is by hearing the word faith is increased, and if faith is lost, so can salvation be abandoned. Fellowship is automatic, prayer, breaking of bread, being removed from the things of the world. Memberships are tacitly inferred too as believers are all part of "a Body," and never is the Pastor the head of the group, but Christ only. Finally, the apostles were commanded to go forth and to make disciples, baptizing . . .
Water Baptism as a Unifying Event
There seems to be a connection to believing and water baptism with water baptism appearing to serve as much of as a unifying event in the body as an identifier.
In the face of all this I would direct people coming out of Mormonism to find a church that generally reflects these things in how they "do" church, especially in the focus on teaching the word of God as a means to keep you and yours tapped into the vine, by faith, which can, and will wane.
I would encourage you, since being in the word, discipleship, and faith are so vital to the Christian walk, to challenge ANY and every legalismRule-based religion is over. Faith and love—not law—define life with God now. imposed upon you by a pastor – from fighting the world, to voting a certain way, to paying "tithes," or maintaining mandatory levels of involvement – challenge them, and if their position cannot be explained through sound biblical exegesis, go to another church who feeds the sheep . . . and doesn’t fleece them.

Also from Darrin's earlier email he added: On another note, you read an email from a woman who had a bad experience at a Youth With A Mission (YWAM) base in Hawaii. I believe that she is telling the truth and I cannot speak for that base. However in 2000 and 2001, I was at the YWAM-Denver for a Discipleship Training School and School of Biblical Foundations. It was an amazing time in my life for spiritual growth and I was not aware of any such abuses at this base. Keep up the good work. The new topic of your show is helping me with spiritual questions in my life. Thank you for your ministry.

FROM RALDO M.
Hi people! First of all, I would like to apologize if my English is not understandable, it is my second language and not my mother tongue. The LDS are not so big in my country, but Masonry has influenced a lot of churches. My culture has a tendency to deny what is happening around them, we have big pride issues, especially among the Afrikaans churches (please go Google it). As I said, Mormonism takes up a small percentage of RSA's beliefs, but yet I have stumbled upon a few. I have been working in a ministry for 2 years after I left High school (www.13floor.net) and have a few friends that joined us from the States. One of my best friends Chris Barnum, which I met there, was raised Mormon for about ten years, his mother then by God's grace realized that what they teach are not the truth, so they escaped the cult miraculously. Most of his relatives are still LDS. He is now the Team leader of the ministry I have been part of. Hearing this story, I saw a need, seeing as one of the world's most influential country's are operating from a worldly system, whether it be Mormonism, Politics, or even a capitalistic system. In my youth I had a lot of issues with the world, I have been scared and wanted to rebel against any system possible, but yet in a loving way. My mentality was messed up, yet I really just wanted to follow God… I was strongly under the impression, that God's will for me was that I should bring down any form of authority. It's amazing how God just makes everything fall into place, he knew what the right time for me was to hear about all of these systematic things, and also spiritual warfare. I discovered the authority that comes with Christ in a very deep context and I started to detach myself from this world (the flesh). At this time I also wanted to do something about Mormonism, and on top of that, I have never really been fond of church in general, although I am…
Exploring Faith and Ministry
raised with Jesus as the centre of everything. I started praying for the cause, and doing light research, I found HOTM on YouTube, and started checking out the website. I would like to thank you people for allowing God's will to prevail through you. Even though I was in ministry and had nothing to do with LDS I was touched, and my relationship with people and Jesus changed. I pray blessing to you, I am not there in person (unfortainately) but yet God's Spirit connects us on a deeper level. Please feel free to mail me your prayer requests. I love you guys allot, And I learn allot from watching your EVC shows, I can finally relate directly. May the blood of Jesus prepare the road for you my friends! I love you all!
Concerns with Ministry Focus
FROM PASTOR BILL in IDAHO
After viewing Model for the Church 1 I figured you were talking about my fat little friend out in Magna at the Orthodox Presby. Church. I figured he had run interference at 20. He has a lot of head knowledge about reformed theol and the same about LDS. No love just academic hubris.
I have read much about the LDS and taught such in several communities in which I served as a minister. While working in the SLC Metro I taught home studies but only a positive biblical exegete without negatives. The LDS came in and out without feeling challenged. My goal was one of seed planting; just planting a doubt witch may crack the LDS vessel and allowing God to water. My concern is your moving from Mormonism to a Evangelical focus may place you in a similar place as Mr. Wallace. Did God call you to serving the LDS or the Evangelical movement. Are you on a tangent from your calling. You have been very effective in your calling. Don't let the envy of people like my little friend upset your ministry or divert you from your path. He will only try to make himself look good and has little to offer to those who he says he is a missionary. I would be sad if you were in the same position with the Evangelical community. You say a lot of good things and I am glad your on the web again. Enjoy the program.

The Challenges Facing Modern Churches
Dear HOTM and various other ministries:
Are we in the Church of Laodicea* stage in The Book of RevelationA symbolic prophecy fulfilled in 70 A.D.—not a prediction of future global events.?
I ask this because:
People in D.C. are going after, and have for some time, ministries that allow the leaders to live lavishly (Joyce Meyers' famous gold toilet, a bathroom fixture that was not the kind one sits on but a set of drawers composed of gold and marble. Its cost was thousands of dollars. This one item is one reason a senator is going after t. v. name it and claim it ministries.)
ONE church building, just one church, an Epicospal Church in Manhattan has over one Billion that is billion with a B in assets, land, wealth. This recently received national attention. I thought churches were supposed to be about bringing the gospel to millions not making millions in wealth.
The LDS religious organization has a Billion dollar shopping mall in Salt Lake, City. It is the City Creek Mall.
Once considered a place only for the disenfranchised, except now even educational t. v. has done documentaries on the money and power the PENTECOSTAL denominations now hold.
A church in northern Utah, a non-Mormon one battled to have a parking garage not built in a certain location because the garage would block sunlight from streaming through the church's beautiful stain glass window.
A religious organization in Utah had a meeting about money matters that was so contentious that the local law enforcement was involved. Surprisingly the religious organization was not Mormon, but a Greek Orthodox organization.
A ministry in Utah is kicked off the air for exposing how the LDS church uses dangerous mind control. The Station that removed the ministry from its airwaves claims to be religious in nature and claims to be bringing light to Mormon controlled Utah.
A Call for True Values
Our churches are buying phony gold. In the Book of Revelation we read that Laodicea had considerable flaws. Many think of Laodicea as being only flawed. But if we continue to read in Revelation we find that Laodicea has a chance and can still buy good gold, the true gold. Rev. 3 18-22.
It is the case of the college that offers sound academics is getting little funding, yet a football factory gets millions to build a sports complex and the football coach gets millions in salary and bonuses. Ministries that answer questions and provide sound doctrine and information are forced to live frugally.
Accountability in Religious Organizations
and the popular attractive organizations have billions that are sometimes unaccounted for. It is sad. People need to know the difference. MInd controlling organizations are going to have to account for what they did. LDS could start by apologizing to the Fancher Baker*** descendants and giving back some of the property (in today's dollars it would be in the millions) to Fancher Baker DIRECT descendants. Only the DIRECT descendants who can prove they are DIRECT descendants.
Concerns About the Church
If we are in the Church of Laodicea, I am a bit worried. Some say that the Church has always had Ephesus members, Phildadelphia membership etc within for the 2000 years we have been in the age of Grace. To me it seems to be getting more and more about money. Don't get me wrong. Organizations have to have some money to do things. But appropriately accounting for how the money is used is the key.
