About This Video
Shawn McCraney argues that true Christianity has always existed and opposes the notion that he is akin to Joseph Smith in restoring it. He emphasizes individual belief and accountability solely to God, criticizing the institutional religious authority that seeks control over personal faith, and challenges claims against his interpretations of biblical accountability.
Shawn argues that the era of using ecclesiastical authority to enforce obedience to biblical or man-made rules is over, emphasizing that accountability is now directly between the individual and God through the Spirit, as God has inscribed His laws upon believers’ hearts and minds. He criticizes those like Jason who interpret the New Testament writings as a manual for control, asserting instead that life and faith should be guided by the Spirit rather than the letter, aligning with scriptural references such as 2 Corinthians 3:6 and Hebrews 8:10, which highlight the inward, spiritual guidance of believers.
Shawn emphasizes that Christian Anarchists prioritize Christ as their foundational principle, advocating for a life led by the Spirit rather than adhering to traditional religious laws or man-made governance, thereby fostering an environment of freedom grounded in faith and love. He clarifies that this ideology should not be misunderstood as promoting lawlessness, but rather as a commitment to following God's guidance through prayerful understanding of scripture, encouraging individuals to embrace a path of spiritual freedom and mutual love.
Shawn emphasizes that the primary commandments for Christians are to believe in Jesus Christ and to love one another, advocating for holding pastors accountable when they exploit their positions rather than nurturing faith and love. He critiques certain pastoral practices, such as imposing tithes and promoting questionable doctrines, arguing that it is vital for religious leaders to demystify spiritual bondage and promote genuine Christian principles for the well-being of their congregations.
Shawn critiques traditional religious teachings, like those of Pastor Jason, arguing that they misrepresent God by promoting strict doctrines and eternal punishment in hell, leading seekers to mistrust the Bible. Instead, Shawn emphasizes a more personal relationship with God through Jesus, who, as prophesied in Isaiah and echoed in the New Testament, seeks to free and heal the oppressed, counteracting the failures of religious leaders.
Shawn emphasizes the need for direct guidance from God in our hearts instead of relying solely on leaders who may falter, highlighting the importance of truth and integrity in ministry. He criticizes those who undermine his work against Mormonism, labeling detractors as cowardly for hiding behind anonymous channels rather than engaging directly, and expresses respect for individuals like Matt Slick who are willing to confront and discuss differences openly.

Okay, last week we left off covering Pastor Jason Wallace’s 40 minute video smear of your’s truly and our following the biblical description of the faith today. Let’s pick his video back up where Jason, showing video of me says:
Show 14: Video Duel and Responses
November 4th 2019
RUN 03:28 – 03:50
“After nearly 2000 years Shawn is supposed to be finally restoring real Christianity.”
So, Jason starts this segment off again comparing me with Joseph Smith, saying: “After nearly 2000 years Shawn is supposed to be finally restoring real Christianity.” Again, this is not the case, I am not restoring anything. Real Christianity has ALWAYS existed, but Jason keeps playing this note because it supports his idea that I am another Smith.
Not So. I have to make this clear. I do NOT pretend to receive revelations from God for the human race, I do not create scripture, I do not impose rules, doctrines or dogmas on others, and I resent this implication that Jason is using toward me. He can disagree with me doctrinally, or our approach to the faith, but it is these subtle yet constant inferences that I am standing against. They are not fair.
Personal and Subjective Faith
But then he says, “unlike Smith’s version everything is individualist and subjective, and our only accountability is to God.” To this Jason is absolutely correct. Not because I say it, because God says it! Think about this: Isn’t your relationship, and how you choose to believe, and live, and walk with God subjective when the rubber meets the road?
Don’t we all independently choose to believe as we choose to believe irrespective of men and their attempts to control and govern us? What is Jason suggesting here? He is suggesting what all religionist suggest – that you are to be under their authority, their ideas, their opinions? What would this be when they HAVE no authority, and their opinions are no better than yours?
Jason says that it is funny that I taught this before ever preaching hyper-preterism and while he finds that funny it is true. The eschatological view came in later to support a view I have long maintained. At this point he plays several minutes of content from our archives – and I do not disagree with anything I say.
Accountability in Religious Context
Run it 03:50-5:48
5:48-6:25
See, in this age where God writes upon each of our hearts, in this age governed by His Spirit, Jason wants to do what all men of religious institutionalism do – he wants to have his finger in the pie. He wants His fake authority. His tithes. His views to reign over mine. In the very next segment we will see a living example of why this need not be. Run it Seth!
Now, I want you to notice something important here: What I said, in that clip was “the word accountability is not even in the Bible, NOT in the Greek, not in the New Testament . . .” This is important because Pastor Jason, Mdiv Jason, Pastor of an Orthodox Presbyterian Church, a man who like other religious men who believes he should interpret scripture for me and you, not only claims I say things about the Bible that are wrong, but uses a passage of scripture to prove it.
Ready? Watch this again. 05:48-06:25
So, my Educated, Authoritative brother, who has relied on the traditions of men to guide him, who teaches a flock of followers every week, and spends the rest of the time correcting others responds to my saying “the Word accountability isn’t even in the Bible, NOT IN THE GREEK, AT ALL, IN THE NEW TESTAMENT,” that –
“Shawn makes many claims about the Bible that simply aren’t true.”
This is Jason’s opportunity to really set me straight and to prove his assertion against me true – That I make many claims about the Bible that simply aren’t true, right? And in the face of my saying that “the Word accountability isn’t even in the Bible, NOT IN THE GREEK, at all, In the New Testament” he cites Hebrews 13:7-17 as an example of this and has some dude read Hebrews 13:7-17 to illustrate his claim.
For starters, I didn’t say that there wasn’t apostolic demands for accountability in the New Testament – there were – that was how they monitored and held the bride.
Understanding the Role of Accountability in Faith
But Christians today have no right to assign those instances to themselves and their institutions today because, as we pointed out last week, that age is over. Done. More to the point, however, Jason used Hebrews 13:7-17 to illustrate how my claim was wrong. So, is the word accountability used in these passages IN THE GREEK? No. What I said is true: “The Word accountability is not in the New Testament at all, in the Greek, in the New Testament.” That is what I said. So, what is the Greek term translated “to give account” in this passage? It’s logos – the term used to describe the preincarnate name of Yeshua, the Word of God. And the point I made remains true, contrary to the assertions of Jason.
Concerns Regarding Ecclesiastical Commands
So now Jason says:
06:26-06:39 (SHORT CLIP)
Former Mormons have been burned by those who demand obedience to man-made rules. Shawn tries to convince them that even FAITHFUL elders are abusive when they call them to obey even biblical commands.
So again, this is what Jason says: “Former Mormons have been burned by those who demand obedience to man-made rules. Shawn tries to convince them that even FAITHFUL elders are abusive even when they call them to obey biblical commands.” Why do I maintain this? Firstly, that age is complete. God described what the completion would look like all the way back in Jeremiah, an age “when NO MAN WILL SAY TO HIS NEIGHBOR, KNOW THE LORD, KNOW THE LORD for all shall know me.” So anytime an elder, deacon, or pastor tries to correct another it IS a form of unwarranted ecclesiastical abuse. We can teach when asked, guide when invited, but the days of discipline, ostracization, and other stuff died a long time ago as it is the GOODNESS of God that leads to repentance, not the edicts of men.
The Spirit's Role in Personal Responsibility
Why would this be – because God himself has written His Laws on our (believers) hearts and minds. It is an age completely led of the Spirit, an age when every individual is responsible for how they choose to live and believe. Why? Because Elders and their interpretation of what a person should be and say and believe and do contradict each other, and anachronistic, and are often errant – like Jason’s use of Hebrews 13 right here on a tape he prepared and released!
Paul wrote in 2nd Corinthians 3:3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. Remember that the writer of Hebrews wrote twice that God said:
Hebrews 8:10 “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people.” Again, repeated in chapter 10, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;”
These descriptions are about the real New Testament, which is not a collection of books but when God would write on each individuals hearts, making them free in Christ and accountable to God directly. This is why Paul wrote in 2nd Corinthians 3:6, speaking of God: “Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.” Jason is a man promoting letters – letters which have killed and continue to kill – in the name of doctrine. Letters written by men of traditions, letters in the Apostolic Record – and he takes those letters and believes contrary to what God said –
NOT of the letter, but OF the Spirit, FOR THE LETTER KILLETH but the Spirit giveth life. Jason and men like him, though well meaning, would have everyone believe that the New Testament is a manual of commands by which elders ought to use on others – and yet God himself said through Paul that ink and letters kill but it is the Spirit that gives life. Why does Paul write:
Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sinMissing the mark of faith and love—no punishment, just lost growth or peace. and deathSeparation from God—now overcome. Physical death remains, but it no longer separates us from life with God..
Why does he add:
Romans 7:6 But now we are
Freedom in Faith and Love
Delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
Romans 14:4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. And then later he adds –
Romans 14:10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
Brother Jason wants, like most pastors want, to keep their sheep in bondage to traditions of Men and to the laws written in ink, to the will of unauthorized boards of Elders. But what do we read? Romans 7:5 For when we were in the flesh (of religion, and all that made up that former economy), the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
The Spirit gives life, not the law, not the flesh, and not the flesh of men and women in governance over us. Jason now adds:
06:39-08:24
So, Jason says, His alternative (I would correct him and say that it is God’s alternative) is called CAMPUS: Christian Anarchists Meeting to Prayerfully Understand Scripture. Jason goes on:
The Misconception of Christian Anarchism
“This idea of Anarchy – no rules and no accountability – might sound attractive but it is COMPLETELY alien to New Testament Christianity.” Now, as this video progresses, my brother begins to lose some of his objective fair approach to me and starts to more fervently attack. Anyone – anyone who attends CAMPUS regularly will attest that I am NOT a proponent of Anarchism nor do I preach no accountability and lawlessness. This is Jason jumping on the name of our group and assigning it meaning with prejudice! Absolute prejudice.
Notice several things that Jason omitted to mention: Our name is CHRISTIAN anarchists – no secular anarchists, not Anarcho Communists, Christian Anarchists – and it refers to the Greek term Arche used in scripture which means primary form, beginning source, origin and it is where we get words like Architecture (study of first forms) and Archetype (the first man). A Christian Anarchist merely and plainly means people who have Christ as their primary form, their original principle, their source and that we do not put anything or anyone ahead of that. Is that so frightful? So evil? No, it’s not.
Also note that Jason ignores to explain that as Christian Anarchists we “meet to PRAYERFULLY UNDERSTAND SCRIPTURE. We seek and love and uphold the word of God and appeal to it to grow in the Lord by the Spirit. Again – anyone who wants to challenge this, come and sit with us – unannounced, anytime – and you will see this approach in action.
Jason is attempting to assign social or secular anarchism to me and to CAMPUS. I believe in submitting to Governments, in paying taxes, and obeying the laws of the Land. But because of eschatologyStudy of “last things”—TGNN teaches all biblical eschatology was fulfilled in 70 A.D. More, I reject the system in place during the apostolic age of deacons and Elders and all the other trappings of material religionA fulfilled system of temples, rituals, and laws—replaced by direct spiritual relationship. – finding them in opposition to the work of the Spirit upon and in individuals. CAMPUS is all about Faith and Love – nothing more – because Faith and Love open every single individual in their walk with Christ by the Spirit, not law, not rules, not tradition – to Freedom.
Freedom in Christ
What does Paul say in 2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the LORD is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the LORD is, there is freedom.
And in Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
And Peter in 1st Peter 2:16-17 Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God's slaves. 17Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.
And again in Galatians 5:13-14 “You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."
And what did Jesus, the leader of the faith say in John 8:32 “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
The clip from our show ends with me saying that the rules of the Christian body today is faith and love.
Love as the Primary Rule
This is the case because Jesus is NOT coming back to take his bride. He is taking individuals into his Kingdom every day for the past 2000 years. They enter by faith and love – the ONLY two commandments for Christians today.
Listen to 1st John where John summarizes the commandments, saying:
1 John 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
What is Jason’s response to this?
Take a listen:
RUN 08:25 – 08:31 STOP!
Jason's Criticism and Response
08:31 – 08:53
It sounds good, he admits (it is Good, and it is sustained by the Bible) but not being able to attack the doctrine or stance, Jason now moves on to attack me. Listen.
So in the next segment, Jason then speaks to my treatment of Pastors as being anything but loving – which in my estimation is a legitimate point. Jason begins this segment with another attempt to liken me to Smith, saying in response to my claim that Love is the rule of CAMPUS:
“It all sounds good. But like Joseph Smith Shawn’s love doesn’t seem to extend to pastors.”
So, why my general animus to pastors? First of all, it is only to the pastors who are guilty of what I said in the clip that I attack. Not all pastors – only the guilty. Those who “feed themselves,” and not the flock. Those who “do not teach the sheep the word of God.” Those who impose tithes and offerings on them in the name of God. Those who are constantly asking for support, who take trips and vacations on the dime of the believers, those who build up brick and mortar strongholds in their own image.
Is it incongruent to preach love but to call pastors out? I don’t think so. I think the truth is the truth and to say it – especially when it comes to the GOVERNANCE of believers in Jesus' name – is biblical. Paul did it to Peter. See, Pastors enter the arena of public scrutiny when they claim to represent God and Christ, simple as that. I expect that representatives of God and Christ would do ALLLL that they possibly can to liberate people from religious bondage, and would refrain from doing anything in Jesus' name that does the opposite. Pastors are to feed the sheep so they can grow in faith and love. Simple as that.
Evaluating Pastoral Authority and Teachings
Add in my eschatological views, which by the Word support this view I maintain, I think pastors should be called out for such things – if they are guilty. Because Joseph Smith did it does not make the action wrong. He could see the problems too – he just offered up His own non-biblical solution to it all.
Let’s just take one Pastor for example, the one who has taken the time to make this video – Jason – and let’s suppose that in Jason’s case people should trust him:
His authority (wherever that came from) His insights into scripture. His reign over people –
Jason Wallace of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church in the West Valley.
What does Jason teach and maintain? I mean, he preaches that there is a biblical way to guide a flock that is both known and generally agreed upon in scripture, right? So, let’s suppose we could take Jason and duplicate him and his ways throughout the world and that they would represent biblical Christianity to everyone on earth.
What would all the Jason Wallace clones be claiming was biblical and of God:
First, they would teach the practice of paedo baptism. Is that biblical in ANY sense? Not anywhere. And they do this by sprinkling or pouring water. Never read that happening to a child in scripture. But Jason teaches it. Can he be trusted to represent the Word of God to the whole world? Not in my opinion.
What else would the Jason clones teach as biblical truth?
Besides baptism being a sacrament, and an sure second comingChrist’s return, fulfilled in 70 A.D., ending the old covenant—not the world. where Jesus is gonna destroy the world, Jason would teach that the ritual of communion, also known as partaking of the Lord's Supper, is based on the belief that Christ is present in the bread and wine through the Holy Spirit. You would have to jump around pretty heavily in scripture to make that claim.
Jason also teaches that God, in His Sovereignty, elects some to eternal life and that He elects the rest to eternal
The Nature of Punishment and Freedom
Punishment in hell – forever – an actual literal fiery punishment – all because Jason’s God chooses to NOT save them. What else can a person expect to be taught by Jason?
The Bible, having been inspired by God, is entirely trustworthy and without error. Not that the original manuscripts are trustworthy and without error but the Bible today. Really? That is so blatantly erroneous that when seeking people discover this error they will surely walk from God all together never looking to the Bible again.
Of course Jason would also practice and the “disciplining of members found delinquent in doctrine or life.” That’s a direct quote from Jason's denomination. Delinquent how? Disciplined how? You see the problems? And this is just taking one pastor – my accuser here – and holding up HIS special beliefs which he presents as true to the rest of the world.
God's Promise for Liberation
God has authored a much better way – a way where He relates to individuals directly, by His Spirit. And in this way all can be liberated and free by and through His Son. Remember what Jesus came to do, as prophesied in Isaiah AND as reiterated by Jesus in Luke as we read:
Messiah's Mission
Isaiah 61:1
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to
- proclaim good news to the poor.
- He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
- to proclaim freedom for the captives
- and release from darkness for the prisoners.
Who was the cause of the sheep being so beat up and poor that the Messiah came to free them? The Freaking Pastors of Israel. Recall what God said to the Pastors themselves:
Ezekiel 34:2-16
“Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto the shepherds; Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks? 3 You eat the fat, and you clothe yourselves with the wool, ye kill them that are fed: but ye feed not the flock. 4 The diseased have ye not strengthened, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them. 5 And they were scattered, because there is no shepherd: and they became meat to all the beasts of the field, when they were scattered. 6 My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill: yea, my flock was scattered upon all the face of the earth, and none did search or seek after them.
Now listen to what God says He would do – listen – to what He would do through Christ someday – ready?
9 Therefore, O ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD; 10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against the shepherds; and I will require my flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the flock; neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more; for I will deliver my flock from their mouth, that they may not be meat for them. 11 For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out. 12 As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered; so will I seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day. 13 And I will bring them out from the people, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the country. 14 I will feed them in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie in a good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel. 15 I will feed my flock, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord GOD. 16 I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment.
This is all a DIRECT appeal to God, in our
Criticisms and Misunderstandings in Religious Discourse
age of Him writing on our hearts and minds directly, guiding us when the pastors continue to fail us.
If I am hypocritical in my attacks say so – prove it. But I’m not. We teach, We feed, we seek, and search, and try and heal and help. We do NOT feed ourselves. We do not cloth ourselves with the flocks fleece. If others do, they are predators on those seeking liberty in the Lord. They are held to a higher standard – which is the standard of truth – I care too much about the flock to play pastor grab ass as a means to belong.
Challenging Criticisms and Motives
08:53 -10:10
Jason starts this off and says that it is out of love for others and the truth that I go after Mormonism,” then adds, “but when others challenge his teachings, he IMAGINES OTHER motives.” And then at this point he runs two clips – one from a video called, the Inquisition, and another from another show where I am responding to the attacks pointed my way.
Jason tries to paint all of this as my overreacting to standard criticisms leveled at me by people who disagree with me “as brothers.”
This is far from the reality. The online, email, face to face, behind my back backstabbing, lies, two-facedness, websites, chatroom, stuff I have experienced cannot be categorized as simple civil criticisms – and Jason has contributed to some of it over the years himself.
If someone has a criticism of my views, I can take that all day. But it gets, it foments, into much, much more – at a level neither he nor others understand (except maybe Matt Slick).
Courage and Cowardice in Confrontations
Jason doesn’t appreciate that I have labeled most of my detractors as cowards – himself included – but they are, and here’s why:
Most of them talk online and behind my back but when face to face with me, they go silent, dodge me, or even act cordial – that’s Jason’s gig – stab me harshly but acts cordial when face to face. There are exceptions to this – but Wallace, and Shafalov, and McKeever, and others are not part of such.
The only guy I respect fully in ministry to the Mormons is Matt Slick because he came and sat with me, we disagree with each other, but he is not afraid to talk on the street like a man. He’ll say to my face what he thinks and will still break bread. I appreciate that.
At this point Jason enters another angle and we will continue to cover it next Monday.
Now remember – comment below, send emails, and tune in tomorrow – call in every – as we cover the contents of tonight’s presentation, right here on HOTM.
See you then.
