Merging Mormonism and Biblical Christianity

Inside the Temple Part III

“LIVE FROM THE MECCA OF MORMONISM”

SALT LAKE CITY UTAH –

This is Heart of the Matter, where Mormonism Meets Biblical Christianity, face to face.

Show 27 / 357 Inside the Temple Part III
September 3rd 2013

And I’m your host, Shawn McCraney. We praise the True and Living God for allowing us to participate in this ministry. May He be with you (and us) tonight.

We have three main websites available for your perusal and use. They are: www.bornagainmormon.com. This was the website that started it all. Give it a look.

Then we have www.hotm.tv. On this site you can –

  • Watch the show live streaming
  • Watch all of our previous programs from our archives
  • Go to our store and pick up some outstanding items like actual gold plates from heaven, urim and thummins from the Old Testament, and an extra wife or two (just look under bargain items).

Then we have www.c-a-m-p-u-s.com. That’s our church site. And you can read all about what we think church ought to be all about even though some of the stuff needs to be updated. So there you have it.

Now, listen we also have a Youtube page. You access it by typing in. And we also have a Facebook page which you can access by going to.

Please, if you are so led, share these ministerial tools with all your family and friends and have them do the same with others. We have never, nor will we ever do any search engine optimizations (like the LDS do) nor do we do mass mailings, advertising or anything like campaigns for funds. For the most part we have left the growth of this ministry to God and those who are inclined to share it. Through this means God has literally reached many many homes and hearts all over the world. However, we have placed HOTM reruns on Direct TV’s channel 378 – the NRB Network which is a very reputable Christian Network. So check all this out and if you are so inclined by God share it with others.

Social Dynamics and Spiritual Truths

Got an email and from what it said some members of the homosexual community are pushing a “Jesus had two Dads” ideology as a means to promote homosexual marriage. I guess they are suggesting that if the Savior of the world could have a Father on earth and a Father on high (and He turned out pretty darn good) why not embrace this model and let two men here marry and raise their own sons.

“What do you think about this, Shawn?” the emailer asks. I’ll tell you exactly what I think about it. We live in a fallen world. All of us have been and will continue to be tainted by sin. The question is what do people do with their sin. All sorts of things. Some live guilt ridden lives in the shadow of it. Some try and rationalize it, justify it, even to the point of demanding that others never refer to their acts as sinful. Some even recruit others to participate in the sin to make ourselves feel more normal and acceptable. And they campaign to raise social awareness with parades and iconic bumper-stickers.

But none of this approaches change the reality: we are all born in sin and there is only one solution to it. Tactics like this latest one from some of the homosexual community are nothing but another special interest group attempting to twist beautiful and spiritual truths to their benefit. I have absolutely no respect for it. None. What the homosexuals don’t see is that each of them have all had two Fathers – one earthly and one on high – calling for them to receive His Son. Unless people do – and I don’t care who they are or what they do – they stand in jeopardy.

Personal Stories of Faith

Well, with us tonight we have a couple right here from the Salt Lake Valley – Rick and Kari. Let’s talk with them for a moment as they have a great story of encouragement to share with all you people who have decided to walk from Mormonism and into a saving relationship with the Lord.

Rick, Kari – thank you for being with us. First, tell us about yourselves. (How long LDS? How long married? How many children?) And what happened to the fantasy? What has been most difficult about leaving the LDS church? So tell us about the transition out with your children.

Rick and Kari, thank you so much. You’ve courage has encouraged many tonight . . . and will encourage many in the

The Connection Between LDS Rituals and Freemasonry

Last week we talked a little about the Law and what Paul has to say about it. We then took a trip inside an LDS temple and watched a huge boring, 90% correct to the Bible interpretation of the creation. In that film, we watched how the LDS depict Satan tempting Adam and Eve, and this is where we left off in this cinematic wonder. Understand that what is going on is those who are in the temples sit and watch what is being presented in film, then the film will pause, and then they will take on temple covenants through rites and ritual related to what they had just watched in the film.

For instance, in the film, Satan tells Adam and Eve, after they have disobeyed and the Father comes looking for them, to “Quick, make ye aprons – hide!” Then the film will stop, and those in the audience will be instructed to also put in the aprons they have carried with them into the endowment room. Throughout the temple endowment ritual, this interchange occurs – Adam and Eve in the film will do or experience something, then the film will stop, and the audience will respond to what they have witnessed through some form of change of dress and receiving of special handshakes and passwords.

But here’s the connection to the Masonry, which is a connection to the Bible. The Free Masons, as a means to protect their ability to freely work in the craft of stone masonry, developed guilds (groups) of other Masons as a means to protect their craft from outsiders wanting to take their enviable jobs. In an effort to give their “guilds substance” they looked back over time and created a false history from the Old Testament narrative.

Masonic Influence from Chronicles

And, being stone masons, where did they look – to the time when the Nation of Israel was doing some serious building – during King Solomon’s time of building the first Temple. And so around the 17th Century they started refining their story or history, and they took characters from the Bible (like Hiram) and created their own narrative to pass along to the members of their guild.

So when we look at 2nd Chronicles we find some of the narrative from which some of the creators of Freemasonry borrowed. Read with me:

2:11 Then Hiram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because the LORD hath loved his people, he hath made thee king over them. 12 Huram said moreover, “Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who hath given to David the king a wise son, endued with prudence and understanding, that might build an house for the LORD, and an house for his kingdom. 13 And now I have sent a cunning man, endued with understanding, of Hiram my father's, 14 The son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson; also to grave any manner of graving, and to find out every device which shall be put to him, with thy cunning men, and with the cunning men of my lord David thy father.”

Secret Knowledge and Its Significance

Now the word “endued” that is used here means “to know” and the word is Yada, in Hebrew, as in “yada, yada, yada.” The Masons built an entire ritual around this concept of knowing among themselves, and would pass their secret knowledge on by passwords and handshakes and secret rituals.

If we look at the Greek translation of the Old Testament (known as the Septuagint and symbolized by LXX) we read the word, “Ginosko” so everywhere where the Hebrew reads Yada, we would read ginosko in the Greek. Now, hang with me – it is from that Greek word for “knowing” where we get the term Gnostic – which is related to gaining spiritual knowledge, usually in a secret way. Again, the Masons are a secret organization that pass information on that is not available to others in a very Gnostic type manner.

Well, from all of this Joseph took and created his temple ritual whereby Latter-day Saints are endowed (endued) with secret knowledge among those worthy to enter and learn the content. This is what we are witnessing here in their temple.

But there is another interesting application…

Understanding "Endued" in LDS Context

The LDS use here.

The word “endued” (which again is translated yada in the Hebrew and Ginosko in the Greek and in both languages means, “know,” and “knowing,” the word endued is used twice in the New Testament. Once in James and once in Luke.

In Luke 24:49 we read Jesus speaking to the eleven before He ascends to His Father and He says: “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.”

The LDS take this account and also apply it to their temple endowment. What is interesting is the word here in Luke for endued is NOT ginosko, but enduo, and it best means (in a spiritual or literal sense) to be clothed or dressed. And so when we take all of this together, Joseph Smith tapped into the Freemasons use of the biblical term endood (which they first applied to knowledge and being clothed) and removed it from their social club guild application and assigned to all the symbolism spiritual applications. You may be tempted to think, “Wow, how would he have the ability to do this? He didn’t know Greek or Hebrew? But he did know Freemasonry, who borrowed from these biblical illustrations and assigned them meaning for themselves. Smith, out doing them, did the same thing, and took all of their information, and just assigned it to his new religion.

The Mormon Christian Debate

This is the thing when it comes to the Mormon Christian debate: Either the Bible is true, and it can be read and trusted OR Mormonism is true . . . and if that’s the case, we can just throw this book right out. And with that let’s have a word of prayer.

So let’s pick up the on Part Three of Inside the LDS Temple.

A Personal Reflection

“Hi Shawn, hope all is well. I just wanted to share something with you. Ive been out of the mormon church for 4 years now, and researched religion, visited churches, listened to different pastors, heard all the different opinions, interpretations of all the denominations, etc etc etc. Man i am burned out. Many "Christians" dont act any better than non-Christians. I think Ive been naive believing all the people say God is doing this and doing that. On and on and on. Man, it all feels like bullcrap now. Ive had it. I barely can go to church and really dont like being around many of the people act fake, when deep down they really could care less. Im tired of the hypocrisy and the social club atmosphere of these churches. I love rock music but I cant stand hearing it in a church format. It just doesnt click. I could go on and on. If it werent for my faith in Christ, modern Christianity wouldve ruined me by now. My faith in God/Jesus is still growing. I still love reading scriptures. Its the churches and the people i cant hardly stand anymore. Like my heart is going through this strange transformation and I cant figure out why. In many ways it feels like God has led me to this point, like He's trying to tell me something is going on behind all this. What’s your thoughts on all this?? Thank you brother! Love Ron”

Honestly, Ron, I feel like modern American Evangelicalism has done a number on us. Truly. Coming from Mormonism and spending years with my nose in the Bible I can see in many ways why Smith did what he did. He knew his Bible, he saw and heard enough religious garbage to choke a horse, got in with Alexander Campbell’s Restorationist Movement through his relationship with Sydney Rigdon, and viola, out came Mormonism line upon line and precept upon precept with plenty of his own imaginative insights thrown in for good egotistic measure.

I look around and see biblical Christianity being used as a big tool to

  1. Bash homosexual and abortion
  2. To mandate all sorts of political garbage
  3. To impose new priesthoods of power
  4. To build empires of wealth
  5. And to even shove down the throats of unsuspecting folks false unbiblical doctrines relative to hell, end-times, Calvinism, tithing, miracles, and false soteriology.

(beat)

How’s that for a summary?

But in the end there are all types of churches that do all sorts of things because they are trying to meet the needs of all types of people. Find the one who feeds you spiritually, and

Discussion on Christian Music

From: Evan

Subject: Christian Music Wrong???

Message Body:

I am a young man from southern California. (Much like you, Shawn) didn’t grow up Mormon but grew up near one of the biggest temples in southern California. (The one in the San Diego-La Jolla area) I also often had Mormons around me. I have agreed to everything you have said up to when you said Christian music is wrong. Please don’t take up offense to this or think I am saying this in hate. I really care about the body of Christ.

What I had a problem with is that ever since I was introduced to the Christian hip-hop artist Tedashii all I have wanted to listen to is Christian hip-hop. It started to change me and I became closer to Christ, I felt convinced about the things I was doing. The hip-hop I was listening to before told me ”get lots of girlfriends”, and ”get money no matter what”. All of a sudden I was being told the exact opposite as in ”females have worth”, ”real men bow to authority” and ”the gifts and the giver are good, your heart are where the problems are at. Let’s get that understood”. And I took a shift from having a girlfriend every month and doing everything for myself. To staying away from lust, and spending my time doing things for God and reading my Bible.

Christian music was a HUGE factor in me coming to Christ and knowing him. I can’t see why Christian music is not ok.

Questions on LDS Church Teachings

From: Roelof

Subject: Why are you fighting against the truth?

Message Body:

Hi Shawn,

Why are you working so hard to fight against the LDS church? You know that nothing will be able to stop the work from progressing. Why do you claim that we teach things like: that God the Father had relations with the virgin Mary? Why do you teach confusing things like the trinity when Jesus talks about his Father in John chapter 15.

Comparisons with Biblical Figures

You are fighting a losing battle, Same as Alma the younger and Saul who became Paul.

Cheers

Roelof
