Did God Create Evil?
Welcome to Caddis Christianarchy, today featuring Sean, Ethan, and Steve. This is our second-to-last show, and we are discussing a significant topic: Did God create evil?
The Biblical Case for God Creating Evil
Maybe I'm wrong, but I swear there's a Bible verse that mentions God creating evil.
The Evidence
Yes, there is. He says it. It's in the Old Testament, possibly Isaiah, Psalms, or Proverbs. The verse goes, "I create evil." Does this answer the question, or are we missing something? Keep talking, and I'll find it.
Does God's Existence Create Evil?
Does God create evil? Is this to be taken at face value? I think God's very existence creates evil.
When you remove the presence of God, imperfection exists because He is light, so there must be darkness. That absence of God defines evil. His existence causes or creates evil. So, did He create evil? By existing, yes, but not by an intentional act. It's not like He decided, "There's no evil right now, and I'm going to create the red mist of evil."
Evidence from Scripture
The scripture says, "I form the light and create darkness; I make peace and create evil." The Lord does all these things. This explains it right there: He creates both light and darkness.
The Context of Isaiah
My only question is if this is taken out of context, possibly related to judgment. It might be saying, "I give light to the nation of Israel or give darkness." Could there be context to it? Listening to what Isaiah was probably talking about, God says, "I give you peace, and then I will give you all evil." That makes sense.
