Ancient Structures to Living Hearts: The Evolution of God’s Dwelling Place
In a recent teaching, the concept of where God dwells was explored, tracing the journey from the Garden of Eden to the hearts of believers today. Initially, God walked with Adam and Eve, but sin created a separation, leaving humanity to operate through the soul. The temple, first a tabernacle and later built by Solomon, became God’s earthly dwelling, symbolizing His presence among His people. This sacred space, constructed with divine specifications, pointed to Jesus Christ, who later became the living temple of God.
Jesus, embodying the Word made flesh, was the perfect home for God until He bore the sins of the world, leading to His cry of abandonment on the cross. With His death, the temple veil was torn, signifying the fulfillment of the Law and the opening of a new path for believers. Now, regenerated believers are considered the temple of God, with His Spirit dwelling within them. This transformation is achieved through spiritual rebirth by faith, making each believer a part of a collective holy habitation for the Lord.
The teaching also highlighted the distinction between ancient temples and modern interpretations, emphasizing that the true temple is now within the hearts of those who follow Christ. As believers, we are called to be a living temple, fitly joined together, reflecting the presence of God in the world.
