Faith without religion.
Faith Beyond Mormonism: A Gathering for Truth Seekers
On March 13th, 2007, Shawn McCraney hosted an engaging session of “Heart of the Matter” from the heart of Mormonism. The event, held at Christ Evangelical in Orem, was a vibrant gathering of Christians, LDS members, and students from Trinity College and BYU. The evening was filled with spirited discussions and even included a heckler, yet it was a blessed time for all involved. Shawn extended heartfelt thanks to Pastor Scott McKinney and his team for their spirit-led, Christ-centered approach to teaching the Bible.
Shawn also gave shoutouts to various friends and supporters, including the team at Beehive Legal in Salt Lake City, artisans Mark Long and Leon Burrows, and many others who have been instrumental in supporting the ministry. He encouraged those in the Salt Lake City area to visit Sandy Ridge Community Church, led by Pastor Travis Mitchell, for another solid Bible teaching experience.
The session addressed common questions and criticisms faced by the ministry, emphasizing its mission to reach out to those seeking answers beyond the teachings of the LDS Church. Shawn clarified that the ministry is not about debating but about teaching and supporting those who are searching for truth. He expressed a desire for churches to focus on teaching the Word of God rather than relying on entertainment or technology to draw people in.
Shawn passionately discussed the impact of Mormonism on individuals, likening it to a false promise that leads to spiritual disillusionment. He shared a poignant analogy of a supposed cure for cancer that turns out to be a sham, illustrating the deep sense of betrayal felt by those who have left the LDS Church. Despite the challenges, the ministry remains committed to guiding individuals towards a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ.
In conclusion, Shawn urged believers to stand firm in true Christianity, representing Christ in truth, love, and order. The session ended with a call to action for the Body of Believers to prepare to welcome those leaving Mormonism into the fold, ensuring they find a supportive and nurturing spiritual home.
