About This Video
Jesus's victory assures complete salvation by faith in Him, and any religious elements that impose demands, guilt, or obligations detract from the true spirit of freedom and liberty found in Christ. Avoid religions that bind you both spiritually and doctrinally, and instead, seek a fellowship where Christ's liberating spirit of love and truth flourishes, unfettered by religious rhetoric, practices, or demands.
At CAMPUS, the emphasis is on worshipping God in both spirit and truth, which provides true liberty and freedom in one's faith, unhindered by religious rituals or institutional demands. This approach aligns with New Testament teachings, highlighting that where the Spirit of the Lord is present, there is liberty, thereby creating the most authentic and liberated practice of Christianity.
Shawn emphasizes that true faith should be subjective, allowing every individual the liberty to pursue their personal understanding of God, free from religious bondage often imposed by church authorities. He critiques traditional churches for restricting this freedom through legalistic demands, arguing that true accountability should be to Jesus alone, fostering a relationship rooted in liberty and love rather than control.
Shawn emphasizes the need for individuals to experience freedom in Christ by rejecting religious bondage, critiquing the manipulative practices within churches such as enforced tithing and guilt-driven contributions. Through his ministry, Shawn seeks to address these issues from a place of love, aiming to liberate people and encourage open dialogue, even as he encounters opposition and differing views from religious leaders.
In this teaching, Shawn criticizes Sandra Tanner’s approach to exposing the flaws of Mormonism without addressing the spiritual void left behind, comparing it to liberating a country only to abandon its people. He challenges Sandra to reconsider her beliefs and methods, asking whether she has examined the inconsistencies in Christian history with the same rigor she applied to Mormonism, and questions her alignment with Calvinism or other theological views.
Shawn challenges religious leader Sandra to clarify her beliefs to those leaving Mormonism, urging transparency about contentious topics like eternal hell, religious authority, and Reformed theology. He advocates for the promotion of personal faith understanding, the rejection of enforced rituals, and the empowering of individuals to explore diverse religious perspectives freely.
Shawn encourages dialogue among Christians to consider different perspectives and interpretations within the faith, advocating for freedom in Christ and challenging rigid dogma by inviting various guests, including clergy, to discuss their approaches in a weekend conference. He emphasizes the importance of educating former Mormons on diverse Christian viewpoints as they transition, urging responsible leadership and open discussion on the strengths and weaknesses of different beliefs.
Shawn emphasizes the importance of religious liberty for individuals while condemning religious leaders who impose rigid doctrines that restrict this freedom. His approach is subjective, focusing on preventing pastors from using theological interpretations to control or manipulate believers, thereby ensuring that Christians can freely express and explore their faith without coercion.
Accepting and experiencing a relationship with God does not necessitate traditional church attendance, as one can find peace and communion with Christ from home while emphasizing personal spiritual exploration and freedom. Despite challenges and criticisms from others, maintaining faith and love in Christ can provide solace and strength, especially when confronting adversity within religious communities.

The Concept of Liberty in Christianity
1-3 Quotes
There is no partial Christianity. Jesus either came and had the victory and we are saved by faith on Him and His merits or the whole thing is a sham. I prefer to see the faith as entire, as Him reigning over all things and therefore there is utter and absolute victory over all things through Him.
If there is anything in your church or religion that inhibits your freedom and liberty in Christ – demands, feeling guilty, requests for money or memberships, or needing to please men – get out – and find a place where His freedom and liberty – which is essentially His Spirit – reigns.
Outlining the Spirit of Liberty
HOTM 2.0
2nd Show – Sandra Tanner
November 7th 2017
BOARD WALK TALK
See below
On the Board, I have crudely drawn an outline of the Mortal Christ – or how we tend to see Him represented. You can see that I have filled His person with red marker, and I want this to represent perfect Christianity here on earth or the Spirit of Liberty. Got that?
Religious Rhetoric
Religious Practices
Religious Demands
Now, over here I have three shapes that represent the antithesis to Liberty – Religious Rhetoric, Religious Practices, Rites and Rituals, and Religious Demands. Every time one of these shapes are implemented into Him and His perfect liberty, something is lost. I think that what is lost is Spirit, and truth and in the end, love. In time we could ostensibly have a church that is almost entirely void of Liberty – which would make it the worst approach to Christianity on the face of the earth! POINT: the MORE of these present in your walk the LESS spirit, truth and liberty you have in Him.
Criticism of Church Practices
Run New Show opener with LDS beginning.
SOCIAL MEDIA PROMO HERE
Last week I made some really bold statements. Before wrapping the show, I said that . . .
“The so-called Christian Churches of Utah have taken exiting LDS people and are placing them wrongly in more religious bondage – which stands in OPPOSITION to the directives of the Word of God.”
Then I said, “we are going after them publicly, by name, and relentlessly demanding (in the name of God and His Word) that they stop claiming to have any authority over people, that they stop preaching a frightful unbiblical coming end of the world, and that they stop preaching tithes.”
The Best Approach to Christianity
“We at CAMPUS have the best approach to Christianity on the face of the earth. And we invite any and all to either join us and be free in Him.”
That last one is really bold – I mean, truly brazen for anyone to say. Who has the right?
The Mormons have unabashedly made this statement but to an even greater degree. They say, “We are the only true Church on the face of the earth.”
Notice that is not what I said.
I simply said that “at CAMPUS, we have the best approach to Christianity on the face of the earth.”
Are we the only ones who have it? Never.
Did we create it? No. It’s been around since Christ. And so any church or person who has it we share with them in this fact – that we have the best approach to the faith on the face of the earth.
If it’s true, and it can be proved to be true through the Bible, then it must be said. So we say it without hesitation.
Worship in Spirit and Truth
But now I want to begin to explain not how we have the best approach to Christianity on the face of the earth – not the specifics – they are coming later – but upon what principles we are able to even say such a thing.
Let me appeal to this question through two separate passages of scripture in the New Testament:
In the first, Jesus is the speaker and says to a Samaritan woman:
John 4:23-24 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
From this we can clearly say that true worshippers of God – worship God from two positions – from the Spirit and in the Truth.
If we ONLY have the spirit (and not the truth) we cannot be considered true worshippers. And if we only have the truth (but not the Spirit) we cannot be considered true worshippers.
Jesus said it Himself – in Spirit AND in truth.
So we know that if we have the best approach to Christianity on the face of the earth then we have to somehow prove that we worship God in spirit and in truth.
Liberty in Worship
How can we do this using the Bible as our guide? This is where the second passage comes into play as it ties directly into the first. It’s from Paul in 2nd Corinthians 3:17.
Jesus has said that true worshippers must worship God in Spirit and in truth. And then Paul wrote:
“Now the Lord is the Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”
I think we can add that where the Spirit of the Lord is there is also truth. Spirit and truth present = LIBERTY.
So first, true worshippers of God must genuinely worship Him in Spirit AND IN truth (no wiggle room here – Spirit AND truth) AND then we read:
“The LORD is that Spirit . . . and WHERE THE SPIRIT of the LORD IS THERE IS LIBERTY.”
The Greek term translated liberty here is EL-YOO-THEER-E-AH.
It is used ten times in the New Testament and relates to almost every type of liberty known to humankind– moral, civil, ceremonial, communal, personal, individual.
Freedom Found Through Faith
It is also tied to freedom from corruption, from the judgements of others, from the Law.
So putting it all together I think we can say that “True Worshippers must worship God in Spirit and in truth and that the Lord is that Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty.”
Liberty.
In the places that offer the best approach to Christianity – on the face of the earth – there will be liberty. Freedom.
This is what Jesus came to bring! And nothing has the right to get in between Him and the person involved.
NO THING.
The more liberty, the better the approach. The less, the worst.
Get it?
Let’s go to our Board for an example of this in living color!
INSERT BOARD OF DIRECTION HERE.
Back from Board of Direction . . .
Because of the way we approach the faith, which again, is NOT the product of my imagination but is a product of the Word applied, we do NOT have any religious rhetoric, no demanded religious practices or rites, and no demands on people’s minds, opinions, pocketbooks, time.
The Best Approach to Faith
Because of all of these things, which the Bible makes clear, I suggest that we are in a position to say that we offer the Best approach to the faith on the face of the earth. Now, if you are a person who wants demanded doctrines and practices and religious rhetoric you are welcome to find it. It’s out there. We view that as the right of every believer and do not question your choices. The faith, we maintain, is entirely subjective. That is another reason why our approach to Christianity is the best approach on the face of the earth – we believe – by the scripture – that the faith is entirely subjective and every single human being has the right to pursue God (and their worship of Him) that they believe is best. So have at it – there is liberty in Him.
Then why, you may be asking yourselves, am I going after the churches and pastors in the state (and elsewhere) if everyone has the liberty to subjectively choose where they attend? The answer lies worshipping God in Spirit and truth with liberty being the result of such. Where individual people are often unaware of what is of the Spirit and True, and what real liberty looks like, pastors OUGHT to know – and ought to do everything they can to increase human liberty . . . and NOT increase religious bondage.
Accountability and Liberty
Pastors and religionists are huge on accountability – of having people be responsible to “this board of men” or to that person of authority. This is the claim many have against me. They say, “he is NOT under authority!” Let me ask you something – “?What has them being accountable to their elders boards amounted to? Them putting people in religious bondage! They say that I am irresponsible and that I refuse to be accountable to authority and yet the result has been total liberty in the lives of people who come to CAMPUS and some form of religious bondage places on the people who come to them! THINK ABOUT THIS STUFF FOLKS.
I once told Terry Long of Calvary Chapel Salt Lake City that I was accountable to Jesus alone and he scoffed at that and said that when men say such things they are headed for trouble. Isn’t that amazing? That Christian pastors and teachers don’t have the liberty to let Christ be their accountability partners but demand other men get involved to oversee what they do? And then the end result are the empires of bondage that have popped up all around us?
Examining the Fruit of Liberty
What is the fruit of liberty and love in the religion you embrace? If liberty and love are not primary – primary – and law or legalisms of any kind are, you are in a religious prison – period. What is the fruit of CAMPUS? Come and test it against scripture. Come and discover whether you experience more religious liberty and love to be who you are in Him here . . . or less. This is the test.
Then go to any of these so-called Christian churches in the valley – or wherever you live – and listen to what is being said and demanded. Listen for clues to your liberties being taken away or infringed upon by others. Go to the Rock – and listen to what is being said and done – in Jesus name. Listen to the restrictions, the demands, and the appeals to law. Go to Calvary Chapel Salt Lake and listen to the fear mongering, the word tithe and tithes, and the messages. All of them will preach some freedom in Christ – its what keeps people coming – but mixed in with this moments of truth you will hear the chains a-rattling.
Go to ANY reformed church (that takes reformed theology seriously) – chain, chain chain. Head on out to “the South Mountain show” and watch the manipulations – they range from extreme subtlety to overt – but they are there. All to feed the machine. And all at the expense of individual liberty all believers ought to have in their relationship with Christ.
Challenge me. Challenge us! You name the topic or practice and I guarantee you that a reasonable, sound, original language study of the Bible and what it says cover to cover is being misrepresented to you in some way or another with the end result being a LOSS of truth, a LOSS of the Spirit, and therefore, a LOSS of personal liberty.
People exiting Mormonism
Religious Bondage and Liberation
are NOT aware of these shenanigans. They are trusting and seeking, and the charlatans are taking them captive before they are armed with an ability to understand or really choose. And the cycle starts all over for them – ultimately leading many of them to disillusionment, religious despair, and sometimes agnosticism or atheism. The intuitive will often see the writing on the wall and then sadly walk from God altogether. That’s the most heartbreaking scene I have ever seen.
And so we are openly addressing this issue – out of LOVE for our exiting LDS family and friends – to help them experience the liberty that is in Christ and to avoid the bondage religion is placing on their backs. Of course, it's prompted out of my ardent love for the LORD and then even for those religious leaders who are in all probability just trapped in false religious bondage themselves.
Ministry Goals
Now, as with most things with this ministry, we are living it all out on air and tape. As I change and act, you will be informed, and as things develop each week, I’ll let you know. In that vein let me let you in on a little secret – while I detest end-time threats (they are SO NOT biblical) and claims at religious authority, I would be pleased as punch if I could do what Greg Johnson should have done years ago – and that is to get all the Christian churches in the state to agree to
- Stop using the term tithes
- Stop passing collection plates or bags during services, and to
- Just trust that God will provide for their needs instead of putting that bondage on people.
Some churches don’t use tithes, but what they do is make people feel guilty for not contributing. That’s bondage. Let His people go. So that’s a little insight into my highest priority.
Courage to Engage
Also, in terms of response, I immediately got an email from Pastor Jason Wallace stating that he would be more than willing to come on the show (for a third time or fourth) and defend what he says is biblical truth. (I have to laugh at that statement like Erasmus laughed at Luther). But I have to also admit that at least he is willing. I wrote him and told him that we would be looking to early 2018 and that I would be in touch.
Online – which is typical for Jason Wallace – his demeanor has been much more antagonistic toward me than his emails are to me in person. Last week when I called the Pastors cowards, I was specifically referring to this back room bravado – like when they banded together to get me booted – and when guys like Wallace act so tough through the internet but in person react much differently. I walked into a Carl’s junior several months ago and saw Jason sitting in a booth eating. He had at this point posted a number of things online about me and I hadn’t seen him face to face since doing it. I walked up to his booth and said, “Jason Wallace.” With God as my witness the guy looks up at me and goes, (show reaction). I said, “how have you been,” and he mumbled something then reached into his wallet and handed me this, saying:
“Here’s something you might want to check out.” So bold, so smarmy behind the scenes, so cowardly when face to face – and alone. In an act of bravery, I also got a kind invitation from Dave Nelson of K2 to go to dinner with him and his wife and Mary and I. Again, at least a willingness to talk and discuss. And he reached out having watched last week. I’ll keep you updated on what happens there. I’ve also been politely contacted by a Pastor in Draper who wants to come on the show – Nathaniel Taylor at Hidden Valley Presbyterian Church – so we also look forward to hearing from him.
One final thing before we open up the phone lines – and this one is gonna bother some of you greatly. Not going to make me popular but it’s time to bring all things to the light including those who have been impervious to Christian scrutiny.
Acknowledgment and Criticism
Sandra Tanner, with her husband Gerald, have done really wonderful work in leading people out of Mormonism and her ministry has had (and continues to have) our support. But over the last four years or so she has been speaking ill of me – publicly.
Confrontation with Sandra Tanner
and then privately to certain individuals and then of course, online. I have not responded in kind because I was not really prepared to understand where I really stood – plus I have always promoted and respected Utah Lighthouse Ministry for what they do – and continue to.
A couple of years ago word got back to me that Sandra was calling me an “irresponsible leader.” That hurt. So I did what scripture teaches us to do – go to the person who has ought with us and confront them – and I called Sandra. I explained to her what I had been told and asked her if this was true – she did not deny it. What she did do is rationalize her having said it by claiming that the person who she was talking to “had goaded her into making the comment” in the first place.
But there was no apology or any sort of retraction and I hung up knowing then that Sandra was not a friend anymore. Recently, and according to my limited knowledge, she’s back at it. With the pause button taken off it’s time for me to speak plainly – with the hope of liberating all people from the religious bondage heaped upon them after leaving Mormonism or any other religious trap.
Joan Didion and the Year of Magical Thinking
Joan Didion is a famously talented writer who was married to the love of her life, (writer husband John Gregory Dunne for 23 years) While sitting at dinner one night he slumped over and died if front of her. For a brief period Didion actually thought that her husband might just somehow walk back into her life. This thinking was a way she coped with her loss.
Realizing the insanity of such ideas, she did what she frequently did in the face of personal pain, and wrote a book calling it The Year of Magical Thinking. Of her thirty three books, The Year of Magical Thinking is considered one of the best.
Criticism of Sandra Tanner's Approach
In relation to Sandra Tanner, certainly a sacred cow in the realms of Mormon history and apologetics and one who is almost impervious to Evangelical criticism, her decades of Magical Thinking need to come to an end – with that thinking being the idea that we can simply prove what’s wrong with Mormonism and then sit back and allow “Christianity” writ large to care for them with honesty and biblical integrity.
The approach is irresponsible, unkind, and is akin to the US entering into a country that is accustomed to one despotic regime, liberating them from its clutches, and then walking away, leaving the country and its people to their own devices. In the case of the ex LDS – to spiritually starve.
This approach almost always leads to more suffering then what the captives were originally liberated from (as in the case of the Bolshivek Revolution and the Protestant Reformation explained last week). That is what you have done for over fifty years, Sandra, living with the magical thinking that to extract someone from one twisted faith was sufficient and to not investigate – and expose – the traps that await them with the same fervor that you have exposed Mormonism.
Perhaps you don’t feel inclined – that’s fine. But don’t call me an irresponsible leader for having the inclination and then revealing my biblically supported findings. Or perhaps it’s because your ministry is supported by churches and religious institutions and to make waves would put you under too much . . . scrutiny?
Questions for Sandra Tanner
Let me ask you some questions here, Sandra – you know publicly and out in the open, one that is not against your person (as your attacks have been against mine) but in an effort for you to explain some of your beliefs, as an ex Mormon, to the world.
You’ve been really great at showing good LDS people how faulty Joseph’s Smith’s teachings on the make-up of God are – how he manufactured and contradicted himself over time. My question for you is have you given ANY time at all to show that the same could be said in the development of God and Jesus over the ages of Christian history as well?
Or, you seem to associate with a number of Calvinists. Are you a Calvinist, Sandra? You have been more than willing to express the evils of the Mormon people following men but have you embraced the teachings of another man or men yourself?
Perhaps you’re an Arminianst? Is that what God you look to, Sandra? One who knew people would fail
Examining Beliefs and Responsibility in Leadership
And die without knowing His Son but couldn’t do anything about it because of their free will?
If you’re a Calvinist, have you explained to people leaving “the God of Mormonism” that YOU personally believe in a God who “created the whole of humanity knowing full well that He would choose – HE WOULD CHOOSE – to send most of them to suffer in the eternal literal flames of hell forever? And that this is how your God gets his glory?
Tell us, Sandra, as the responsible leader that you are, where you stand? Are you responsible enough to stand for actual biblical truth which you will boldly profess to all who wonder? To all who seek, to all who need to hear? If so, what exactly are those biblical beliefs? Don’t you think you should explain them to anyone thinking of leaving Mormonism?
Wouldn’t that be fair to them? Or are you doing what you accuse the LDS missionaries of doing – only teaching the easy things and then once a person has converted you let the hard stuff out of its cage? Do you believe in the Evangelical hell, Sandra? Have you really studied what the Bible actually says about it? Do you feel like you’re being a responsible leader of exiting LDS people by NOT telling them that you really believe that most people are going to burn forever after this life in a place called hell?
Perspectives on Doctrine and Authority
If you don’t believe this, isn’t it only fair you boldly explain why? And that your Christian supporters understand this about you? How about a study on tithes, Sandra? Or church authority? I’d really like to talk to you about why you allow men to have religious authority over you, Sandra. Or do you not? Which is it? I mean, your critical of me trying to discover all the angles to this faith and for sharing them with people shouldn’t you turn the tables and ask yourself why you haven’t done this?
Perhaps you don’t know any better? That ignorance is your justification. Well it’s a great time for a change, my sister. I suggest that the decades of magical thinking need to end for you my sister, and now, while telling people all that is wrong with Mormonism also telling them all that they need to look out for in the Evangelical world.
Embracing Liberty in Faith
If you are willing to start promoting the idea that all people’s faith is subjectively understood and lived, that their views are up to them and nobody else, that there is no authority on earth but the authority of God, and that tithes, and demanded rites and rituals are false, you have a home here at CAMPUS. We’re right with you, girl! You’re not alone! Let’s team up and really set these people free, huh?
(beat) No?
Price too high, sister? Got too much to lose? So much that you won’t sacrifice for a people who desperately need liberty in their lives and not more religion? (Beat) Or maybe you really, truly honestly believe in Reformed theology, and eternal hell for most, and a limited atonement, and tithes, and religious authority?!!! (Big eyes)
If that’s the case why don’t you honestly explain all of this to the LDS you are trying to liberate? Give them an idea of what you have turned to once you and Gerald left the faith. What about end times, Sandra? What do you tell these people who are walking out of Mormonism? That Jesus is still coming back for His church and to expect the whole of Revelation to come upon them?
A responsible leader would thoroughly examine all avenues, vet them, test them, and not only personally hold fast to what is good but would openly share what they believe. Have you done that, Sandra – and made your findings known? Or have you relied upon men to tell you what to believe… like the good Mormon gal you used to be?
I mean in many ways it might be said that you have contributed as much to the loss of faith in people’s lives as you have contributed to them coming out of Mormonism. That’s irresponsible leadership. It’s frankly cold, indifferent, and cowardly. Any fool can attack Mormonism. I’ve proven that. Come join us in the real war, Sandra. For the total liberty of all people in Christ to believe as they wish – and to let God be their judge.
I wonder – do you
Discussion on Faith Paths
still think that just coming out of Mormonism and into atheism is better than not coming out of Mormonism at all? Your actions seem to suggest that this is your view? Perhaps I’m wrong? How about addressing some of these issues, Sandra? Give exiting Mormons some of that responsible leadership you claim I lack. Maybe you could begin by telling them what you really believe and why, and then maybe direct them to the type of Church they ought to seek once they are out. I would personally really enjoy knowing what you endorse as a superior replacement to what they have come from.
Let’s open up the phone lines:

Engaging Different Christian Views
It seems we have touched on something important with last weeks show here on HOTM 2.0. From our emails and other comments:
Hey Shawn, You put a call out for others to come onto the show and defend the way they do Christianity. It sounded like you'll do whole episodes with them? In studio or on the phone? How about Catholics? Thanks, –Keith
Different Faith Perspectives
RESPONSE
Whole shows, panel discussions – I’m working on developing a weekend conference to invite speakers to publicly present why their approach to the faith is best. But all of it is to show that most of the approaches are an affront to the liberty and freedom people can have in Christ today and to arm exiting LDS people with this knowledge.
Chris wrote in from Idaho and said:
Hey, Brother. I saw the new show the other day. I'm going to a very Calvinistic church, because that is where my wife is in her faith, though I think she now sees some of their errors. At church, I try to interject where I can – basically w/ the attitude to the preacher of "You may be right, but . . . here's another view." I'm trying to get folks around me to realize it is ok to hold onto certain positions, but that doesn't mean the other side is wrong if they have some Biblical basis for their views. The other day, they were discussing Hell. I interjected w/some of the viewpoints of Edward Fudge (check him out on youtube). I was pointing out that the annialation view of hell amongst others views. We just don't know. Why stand so firm on a side issue?.
It didn't go over well. The funniest part about it is that the preacher couldn't express at all why the concious pain and torment view either makes sense or has any purpose. He was pointing back to the reformation creeds as support for his view for crying out loud.
Anyway, I want to encourage you in your walk.
RESPONSE
Chris has his finger on the pulse of the faith today and this pulse will only grow in strength. Dogma is dying a deliberate deathSeparation from God—now overcome. Physical death remains, but it no longer separates us from life with God. – and it should because MOST of it can be debated BY the Bible itself. Thanks for the encouragement, Chris.
Opportunities for Dialogue
Thus far, I have had one Pastor in the area come forward and volunteer to come on the show – Pastor Jason Wallace.
He wrote: Shawn: Your recent challenge was passed along to me. As I have done three different times on your show before, I will gladly defend the biblical faith again. I'm tied up for the next few weeks, etc.
First of all, hats off to Jason for coming to me and agreeing to address the issues. Let’s see what other pastors will do the same.
As long as I am on the topic, we’re looking to first quarter of 2018 to host a two day conference titled, “Why our approach to Christianity is the best on the face of the earth.” I am hoping to get some willing participants to step forward and explain themselves. Stay tuned.
Mark G. wrote:
“Don't let anyone tell you you lack love. You're a man of great love.”
Since we didn’t take calls last week I wasn’t sure what lead Mark to say this – until I was informed that this was a comment made by someone in the state with the ear of the people. I might as well address it now – that person was the Mother Teresa of LDS apologetics, Sandra Tanner.
Try and hear me. Sandra has done wonderful things to illuminate people on Mormonism. And I continue to drive people to her ministry for that purpose. But Sandra has not taken the same amount of time and trouble to investigate the faith she has apparently embraced – Christianity. If she had, and IF she had the same courage toward
The Role of Love in Religious Critique
it that she has had toward Mormonism, she would not be where she is as a Christian. But she represents something VERY common in LDS people coming out of the Mormon Church – once they glom onto another system they go no further. It’s too tiring, and frightful, perhaps even threatening to faith itself. So they settle into some church and some systematic theology or another, and consider it done.
Unfortunately, when I was on air and going after the LDS, the very same claim was against me – “where’s the love?” It’s a claim that Sandra faces in her war against Mormonism this very day. So for her to use it against me for challenging Christian churches is extremely narrow and unfair.
It is LOVE that drives the accusations, Sandra. It is love for people, and love for the Pastors who are putting them in chains. Pastors can preach and teach what they want – but when that flows over to preying on people, someone needs to call them out – just like you call out the LDS!
Your criticism of me – which again, have NEVER been to my face but always online – are unfair. Come on the show, Sandra. Show yourself approved in your professions of faith. I can’t hold a candle to you on Mormon stuff, but I think its fair to say that you don’t know your Bible – and out of love I’m telling you so.
Freeing People from Religious Bondage
From Jordan –
Hey Shawn,
Had some questions just so I can get a better grasp on what you are trying to accomplish.
- The whole point of this new approach is to free people from religious bondage correct? It isn't about who has the right doctrine?
- We still want to be subjective to our approach to the gospel of Jesus right?
The Subjective Approach to Faith
RESPONSE
The approach IS entirely subjective, always, Jordan. Individuals are free to believe what they want and to be loved along the way. But the focus is upon religious predators seeking to strip that very right every Christian has, in the name of God, in order to place them under what they describe as objective demands – which therefore strip people of the liberty Christ came to give.
I have not a care for what individuals think teach or live. That is their right. It’s the “over the pulpit guys” that are in my sights. So eschatologyStudy of “last things”—TGNN teaches all biblical eschatology was fulfilled in 70 A.D. More in the individual can be whatever it will be – again it’s a Christian right – but if a pastor uses an eschatological position to enslave others with it, that's when we step in the ring. Hope this helps, my brother of another mother!
Shawn
Personal Struggles with Church Practices
Dear Brother,
I just listened to tonight's show. What you said is EXACTLY why I don't go to "church"!! I love the Lord w/ ALL MY HEART!!!!!!! I teach my children from what I know and have learned after reading the Bible diligently for 30 years. I have not found a church in my 30 years of being a lover and follower of Christ that teaches the Bible line by line, verse by verseTGNN’s Bible teaching series—book-by-book, through the lens of fulfillment and spiritual liberty.. I've been duped, lied to, betrayed when seeking help from a pastor/church for an abusive husband whom AFTER I married him found out he was a convicted child molester.
I've had a pastor question my going to a psychiatrist for severe chronic depression. He didn't believe a true Christian could have depression and that psychiatrists were all quacks. Well the reality is I am disabled with depression. I'd rather lose an arm than have my mental illness which causes me to be a shut in, unable to function, w no friends cause people act as if I have the plague! I'm a loving mother and believer in my Saviour Jesus Christ. My house may be cluttered and dusty, but my children know love! The biblical love of 1 cor 13, as a verb, an action word, not a feeling.
The "church" my ex husband is taking my children to today is preaching/teaching on pornography????!!!! Lets teach our children the Bible PLEASE!!!!!!! My youngest is 16 and I tell her she doesn't have to go and she learns about Jesus from me and my knowledge of the Word of God, as well as her own studying. My 19 yr old doesn't want to go to church and I'm ok w that. She knows Jesus and He knows and has her, and she'll find her way back to Him in HER time. My 21 yr old…
Navigating Faith and Personal Beliefs
Lives with his father, who tries to force him to go. I tell him "he's 21, let him seek out the Lord on his own terms". My 25-year-old wants nothing to do with God, in spite of being raised in and with the Bible; but I know God has her back too, and I pray for her every night.

May His love, grace and peace keep you all. Love in Christ, Susan Gomez

And of course there are the online voices that have always been there – doing their best to muddy the waters and make the ministry something that it is not. I welcome their comments to me directly – at least Jason Wallace came to me – but these sorts just cackle among themselves publicly never directly coming to the source – they let others do that.
Encouragement for Open Dialogue
So again, our doors are open. Come out of your closet and address me directly with your complaints. I am right here. You have emails, you have an invitation – come one come all.
