About This Video

Shawn McCraney emphasizes that all individuals, regardless of their background or lifestyle, are welcomed and loved in the Body of Christ through Jesus' grace. While addressing criticism from Benjamin, he upholds that certain actions, considered sinful because they miss God's mark, are forgiven through Jesus, leaving judgment to God rather than humans.

Shawn teaches that all sin, including homosexuality, is a condition that keeps individuals humble and reliant on God, emphasizing the importance of approaching God in faith and seeking an open, honest relationship with Him rather than rationalizing sin away. He asserts that God's truth transcends societal labels or political correctness, focusing on biblical truth, and encourages understanding Jesus' relationship to God as a unity of God's Word and Spirit that actively partakes in creation and life.

The teaching emphasizes that understanding the nature of God involves recognizing attributes such as fire, liberty, light, life, love, spirit, truth, and words as interconnected and synonymous aspects of His essence. Scripture suggests these attributes describe God, His Spirit, and the Word, which became flesh as Jesus, illustrating the multifaceted relationship between God's words and His spirit, ultimately guiding believers in truth and freedom.

Shawn's teaching emphasizes the incarnation of God's Word in Jesus Christ as a pivotal event that allowed God to intimately understand human suffering, offer salvation, and provide a perfect example of divine obedience and love. Jesus, embodying truth, liberty, light, and life, sought to reignite the glory of His spiritual origin as the Word made flesh, while humankind was invited to become joint-heirs through His sacrifice and regain fellowship with God.

We express our love and prayers for Andy Poland and his family. Join us next week when Pastor Nathaniel Taylor will be present on HOTM.

Hey and NEXT week we have a Pastor Nathaniel Taylor who is coming on the show to explain why his approach to the faith is the best on the face of the earth and to perhaps defend some of his views and teachings. He is Reformed and educated and the Pastor of Hidden Valley Church in Draper – so pray that we will engage in love and peace. That’s next week, March 13th Nathaniel Taylor of

Audience Reactions and Personal Reflections

So last week got the blood pumping in some folks but interestingly almost all of the response was positive – which is such a good thing because it tells me our audience, in the least, “gets it” or should I say, “got” the point I was trying to make – and that warms my heart. But there was one post that caused me to stop and think. It was from a man named Benjamin. Now, I have met Benjamin – I’ve even gone to the home of he and his husband to hear Benjamin’s story and he has been to CAMPUS in the past with his husband where he was welcomed and embraced as a gay married man. Loved and welcomed.

The fact that he was gay and married to another man was not something that sort of just revealed – Benjamin made it known in living loud color. We have to sort of put up with people like this don’t we – people who take their pet special interest topic – I’m republican, I’m liberal, I’m a car collector, I get tattoos, I’m a womanizer, I’m part of the LGBT, I’m a Mormon – whatever, and they make it the prevailing topic of everything they talk about. This is Benjamin. As proven once again by his comments about last week’s show, which were:

Addressing Comments and Concerns

So let me address Benjamins comments directly and clearly.

There are ways where being obese or skinny or hammer-toed or gay are similar – when they are the result of genetics we are talking the same things, aren’t we? And I have always maintained that all people of every type and kind and lifestyle are welcome in the Body by the Grace of Jesus Christ. So let this be clear. And Benny’s saying that I repeatedly prove my homophobia and dislike for gay people is unfounded and pejoratively delivered for some other reason then those words being fact. I’m not gonna justify myself and my relationship to LGBT people in any way to show that I like or love them. Again, all people of every type, walk and way are loved and accepted by me and by our ministry. And Benny knows this.

But what Benny wants is for me to say that homosexuality is not a sin. That is the clarion call today – to say that things are not sinful. Sin means missing the mark of God. The act of human gluttony is a sin as it misses the mark of what God would have for his creations. But that sin is taken care of by His son and gluttons are saved by His grace therefore we do not judge others who either APPEAR to engage in it or who actually do – we let God be their judge – after all – he took care of their sin.

Personal Reflections on Sin and Faith

My inordinate desire to perform oral sex on women is sinful and misses the mark God has for me but the inclination has been taken care of by Jesus and I look to Him with grateful faith, seeking his will and ways in these very natural affectations. I cannot ever suggest that my inclinations are not sinful nor of the flesh nor missing the mark. All I can say is I possess this sinful element in my flesh, and admit that God may take

Main Topic: The Relationship Between Sin, Faith, and God's Nature

It from me or He may let it remain, but that I am good with Him by faith and that He works with me on my natural proclivities – not men and religion – God.

Got that?

Some homosexuals demand that Christians must say that homosexuality is not a sin – this is absolutely incorrect – we know how it misses the mark when we look at the Garden of Eden narrative because if Eve was a lesbian and Adam was homosexual then they would have never multiplied and replenished the earth as commanded and which was obviously God's intention.

Sin and Humility

Because it "misses the mark," the presence of it keeps those who possess its tendencies humble, reaching to God, and in open, honest loving relationship with Him – and it is never comfortable to have a sin nature when we are in a relationship with God. Because it's not comfortable, we sinners try to justify it in our minds thereby erasing its ability to make us uneasy. But because of Christ, the sin is taken care of, and all people who possess it are welcome to approach Him in faith, looking to Him and His love to help them – like the rest of us do!

Again, God will either remove the sin nature itself OR He will allow it to remain as a means to keep us broken and humble and contrite before Him. To take something that is obviously off the mark – whether we are born that way or not – and to rationalize it away as not sinful is to remove its purpose in us before God. You don’t like this? I don’t care. It’s the truth. See, your special sin doesn’t get special treatment, Benny. Deal with it.

Humble yourself before the Lord as a gay man like I humble myself as a rabidly carnal man in every other way, and join the body of broken souls seeking open relationship with him where others do not judge or condemn you. Finally, step down off the labeling, Benny. Labeling me as homophobic is showing YOUR heart, not mine, brother. I’ve never called you a name, and I do not dislike gay people any more than I dislike or like any other people. My love and likes for people are absolutely unconditional.

Truth Over Political Correctness

But if I refuse to let you off the hook for your sin nature and hold your feet to the fire for being a special interest zealot, you are not treated or addressed any differently than other special interest zealots – truth is truth and that is what we are about here – not political correctness, or being accepted by the world, or making friends – biblical truth.

So there’s that.

Reflection on God's Nature

Ever since meeting with James, I have been thinking about Jesus and God and the Trinity. And I had a thought last week I want to flesh out here for you on the Board. I’m doing this so you, our viewers, can step in online and tell me if this makes some sense to you or not on the subject of who God is and how I see Jesus in relationship to Him.

From the Beginning and through the Old Testament . . . we read of ONE GOD. Jesus tells us that the one God is Spirit. We also know that the One God "anthropomorphically" "speaks" words and "breathes" spirit.

"Speaks Words" "Breathes Spirit"

Both of these elements of God – Words and Spirit – were involved in creation and in the creation of things – from the universe to the Nation of Israel, to all things, God speaks and the Spirit moves.

Understanding the Nature of God Through Scripture

Creation

Genesis 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Ephesians 3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Trinity Expert James White said plainly that Jesus was NOT a pre-incarnate man/figure so we know from the Bible that He was the Word of God – in other words, what God said, that was what Jesus of Nazareth Was!

Origins of Jesus and the Spirit

John 8:42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
Revelation 11:11 And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.
John 16:27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
John 16:30 Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.

It seems to me, then, that whatever comes from God, according to scripture, it is words, spirit, truth, fire, light, life, love, and liberty. Therefore, could it be that God “Words” are also spirit, liberty, light, life, fire, love, and truth? And His Spirit are words, light, liberty, fire, love, life, and truth, and his fire is love, spirit, truth, liberty, words, and spirit and fire and love.

In other words, when it comes to knowing the invisible One True God, He can FROM SCRIPTURE be described as a being of:

Fire Liberty Light Life Love Spirit Truth Words

Attributes and Descriptions

So, can we then also say (from scripture) that God’s Words are

SPIRIT
FIRE

And that His Spirit is

GOD

Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
1st John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

Hebrews 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire.

John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

1st John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

Mark 12:27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.

I submit to you here and now that one way to begin to understand the invisible God is to see Him as:

We have also said that most of these terms, while distinct, are also somewhat synonymous, interchangeable, related, and interconnected. But do they ALSO describe the “Word of God” which became flesh? In other words, do they describe in scripture what JESUS is to us?

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life. Okay, they do a good job of describing the Word of God. Finally, do they describe the Word of God MADE FLESH in the Man Jesus of Nazareth? In other WORDS WHAT DID JESUS SAY ABOUT HIMSELF?

Jesus Speaks About Himself

John 14:6
I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 8:36
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. John 8:12 I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. Matthew 3:11 . . . but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire.

John 3:6
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

1st John 2:10
He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

John 6:33
For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

Nature of God and Jesus Christ

ONE GOD ONLY
(Called the Father once He filled the Man Jesus)

ONE LORD ONLY
Jesus Christ

ONE SPIRIT OF GOD ONLY
Called the Holy Spirit
Called the Spirit of God
Called the Spirit of Christ

They are all from the One God, so they are all Uncreated, Co-eternal, God Himself.

Here we say that Jesus the Lord is “God with us” in the Man Jesus Christ. Finally, the incarnation of God’s Word in the Man Christ did many things:

  • God passed Himself into the Human Experience. (He was God with us)
  • God understood suffering of Man in and through His only human Son.
  • God took His Word and gave it Human form. (before on stone, now in flesh)
  • God was able to perfectly relate with and to a human without fail.
  • A human being was able to relate to God perfectly and in love.
  • God was able to make propitiation for the sins of the world.
  • God was able to overcome the world by His only Son’s obedience and shed blood.
  • God was able to have the physical victory over Adam’s sin.
  • God was able to have the Spiritual victory over Satan’s reign.
  • God obtained a worthy heir for all of His material and spiritual creation.
  • Man was invited to become joint-heirs with His only Human Son.
  • God was able to rightfully reign over the hearts of Man.
  • Humankind was given a Lord, a King (like unto David) and a Savior on earth.
  • Instead of instructions man received an actual example.
  • He brings all that God is (see above).

So when Jesus of Nazareth asks the Father to give Him the glory He had with Him before (John 17) we know that all Jesus was asking (as a man filled with God) was that God allow Him to fully dwell in the presence of God and His glory again after having gone through the human experience! That was where this man came from (in His Spirit as the Word of God made flesh). Since God’s Word was made flesh, Jesus was asking for His words to return to Him as gloriously as they originally arrived, because he was perfect in His obedience! So then as a MAN preparing to die He asked God the Father for this glory to be restored. But Jesus the Lord asked God for this restoration. But this time, as a glorified man . . . on OUR behalf!

So chew on that and let me know if you have had any realizations or problems with it all.

In Memory

Phone lines

Remember next week, Pastor Nathaniel Taylor of Hidden Valley! Here . . . on HOTM.

And before we go tonight, I want to make mention of loss we have experienced in the Body – that of the man, Andy Poland, who took his own life last week.

Andy is the father of five – aged 22 to 14 I think – and lived in Arizona with his wife. He came to know the Lord and then had an outreach to the LDS – most widely heard on radio.

He was formerly with concerned Christians but over the last few years fell into a state of deep depression.

And after a great battle ended his earth life. I’ve read and heard some really harsh comments over his actions.

Support and Prayers

We love you Andy Poland – and your wife and family. You all have our prayers.

Next Week

See you next week with Pastor Nathaniel Taylor – here on HOTM.
