In a recent teaching, we explored a passage from Luke 7:18-35, where Jesus addresses John the Baptist’s doubts and offers insights into faith and recognition. John, imprisoned and uncertain, sends his disciples to ask Jesus if He is the Messiah. Jesus responds by pointing to His works: the blind see, the lame walk, and the gospel is preached to the poor, fulfilling scriptural prophecies. He emphasizes that blessed is the one who does not stumble because of Him, suggesting faith requires seeing beyond immediate circumstances. Jesus praises John as the greatest born of women but notes that the least in the kingdom of God is greater, highlighting a transition from the old covenant to the new. He critiques the generation’s inability to recognize divine missions, likening them to children who refuse to engage with either joyful or mournful tunes, underscoring their spiritual blindness. The passage challenges us to discern truth through faith and recognize God’s work, even when it defies expectations.
