Resurrection: Cornerstone of Faith

In a recent teaching, we delved into the profound events surrounding the resurrection of Yeshua (Jesus) of Nazareth, a cornerstone of Christian faith. The resurrection narrative, as recounted in the Gospels and Acts, presents varying details, yet the central truth remains: Yeshua was crucified and rose from the dead three days later. This belief is crucial, as Paul emphasizes in 1 Corinthians 15:14, “If Christ be not risen, our faith is vain.”

The Old Testament is rich with prophecies and typologies foreshadowing the Messiah’s resurrection. Yeshua himself, after his resurrection, explained to two disciples on the road to Emmaus how the Scriptures, from Moses through the prophets, spoke of his suffering and glory. This journey through the Scriptures highlighted passages like Psalm 16 and Isaiah 53, which vividly depict the Messiah’s suffering and subsequent triumph over death.

The resurrection is not just a historical claim but a theological linchpin. It validates Yeshua’s teachings and promises, offering believers the hope of their own resurrection. As Romans 4:25 states, Yeshua “was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.” This event assures us of the gospel’s truth and the promise of eternal life.

The appearances of the risen Yeshua to his disciples, as recorded in the New Testament, further affirm this truth. These encounters, where he was seen, touched, and even shared meals, provided undeniable evidence to those who would later face martyrdom for their testimony. The resurrection, therefore, is not just an event of the past but a present reality that shapes the faith and hope of believers today.
