In a recent teaching, we explored the profound symbolism of John the Baptist’s declaration, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (John 1:29), highlighting its encapsulation of atonement—a central biblical theme. John the Baptist’s role was crucial in preparing the way for Jesus, marking the transition from the Mosaic Law to grace. His baptism of Jesus, not for repentance but to fulfill righteousness, confirmed Jesus as the Messiah. The teaching also examined baptism’s historical context, emphasizing it as an outward expression of faith and identification with Christ’s death and resurrection. Ultimately, it underscored that faith in Jesus Christ, not baptism, brings salvation, with baptism serving as a testament to one’s commitment to Christ and the faith community.
