Video Summary:

Forgiveness of sin is described as a completed act through Jesus' sacrifice, independent of individual faith or choice, as God has already forgiven the world. However, repentance is considered a personal choice where one decides to change their mind or actions, distinguishing it from the guaranteed gift of forgiveness.

Is It a Choice to Be Forgiven of Sin?

Welcome to Christian Anarchy today with Sean, Ethan, and Steve. Today, we're discussing an intriguing topic: "Is it a choice to be forgiven of sin and repent?"

Forgiveness: A Gift Already Given

I would say there's no choice at all in being forgiven of sin. Forgiveness was accomplished through Jesus' work, with or without our faith. Forgiveness is not contingent upon our decision; God has already forgiven you. This is my first response to the question.

Many people assert that one must believe to be forgiven because, when you believe, you're forgiven and escape hell. However, scripture is clear that He paid for all of it—God reconciling the world to Himself. He forgave the sins of the world. That’s the bottom line, done and complete.

Repentance: A Personal Choice

Now, is it a choice to repent or change your mind? Yes, I would say it is a choice. Ethan and I both agree that repentance and forgiveness, though often discussed together, are distinct. While forgiveness is a gift, repentance is a personal decision—it’s the two-way street in this matter.

Someone can forgive another even if the person continues their undesirable behavior; however, this doesn’t necessarily mean they will change their mind or actions. As an old Pentecostal saying goes, "He did it all and all for me." Amen to that.

Looking Ahead

In conclusion, forgiveness has been granted to all, yet repentance remains a personal decision. Our next topic will shift gears as we explore a new question: Can a Christian be a cross-dresser? Join us next week on Christian Anarchy Today to dive into this discussion.

Until then, think over the understanding of forgiveness and repentance. What do you believe?
