Organized religion must focus on fostering individual spiritual relationships by the Spirit rather than building religious empires, as societal issues like public shootings and divisiveness indicate a growing need for heartfelt, authentic faith practices. Embracing this shift involves deconstructing current religious systems, supporting diverse worship practices, and fostering unity, even among different Christian beliefs, as exemplified by the open support and shared facilities offered by CAMPUS.
Organized Religion and Individual Faith
Live From Salt Lake City, Utah
THIS IS HEART OF THE MATTERTGNN’s original show where Shawn McCraney deconstructed religion and developed fulfilled theology.
Where we do all we can to worship God in spirit and truth.
Let’s have a word of prayer.
Recently from my hometown, we had a local pastor get accused of molesting children and teens for the past 14 years. To me, it's just another indicator of why organized religion is going to have to get in line with what God has wanted all along – a direct relationship with individuals by and through the Spirit and not religious empires (which almost all men and women seek to create).
The more public shootings that happen, the more uncontrolled communicable diseases that spread, the more molestations, the more demands for money and allegiance come from over the pulpit, the more politically divisive the world becomes, and the more corporations are stepping in and filling in on areas of philanthropy, the more religious empires are going to have to close their doors. Just wait. So let’s get ready for it now but deconstructing what it shouldn’t have become in the first place, teaching the word, and getting rid of the game playing! So, there’s that.
Special Guest Interview
Our special guest interview tonight will be with David Valdez and it should be really interesting. I won’t tell you why because I want David to explain why – and who – he is. But before getting to him, I want to point something out.
We recently had an active LDS man named Kwaku El on the show who seemed to sort of criticize Evangelicals for their failure to get along. His criticism is valid – Evangelicals – especially Reformed believers – are great at attacking nearly everyone as are other foolish fanatics of the faith. Kwaku intimated that because James White and I disagree that there is division between two believers and at that point I had to point out that there is zero division with me and brother White or Durbin, or Wallace or Slick or ANYONE else – but that the divisions come from their side, not mine – and they simply divide against me because they don’t agree on how I see the faith.
Worship and Fellowship Among Believers
I mention all of this because here with us tonight is a man with whom (from what I can tell) I have very, very little in common with relative to Christian praxis. Very little – and perhaps our time together will reveal just how much. Nevertheless, his church came to me and asked if they could use the building and how we have set it up for their weekly services and I said, “of course!” Why? Because I and we at CAMPUS believe that all people have the right to believe and worship as they wish AND to be loved by Christians along the way. Without conditions. So since around August they have met in the building typically on Saturdays and that is that. We have never asked for money or rent or a signed lease and yet they have on their own decided to start anonymously giving some financial support. Isn’t this how things should be among people of faith? And so tonight I welcome the pastor or teacher/leader of this group to come and tell us about their approach to Jesus. David Valdez!
