In a recent teaching, we examined Acts 6:4-7, focusing on the apostles’ decision to appoint seven men to manage the distribution of alms to widows, allowing the apostles to concentrate on prayer and ministry. These men were chosen for their honesty, wisdom, and being full of the Holy Spirit, ensuring fair management of church affairs. The community’s involvement in the selection process helped prevent favoritism. Stephen and Philip, two of the seven, exemplified faithfulness in their roles, with Stephen’s martyrdom and Philip’s evangelism highlighting their significant contributions. The appointment was marked by the laying on of hands, symbolizing endorsement and trust. The narrative concludes with the spread of God’s word and many priests becoming obedient to the faith, underscoring the decision’s impact and the early church’s growing influence.
