The Development of The Great News Network
How we came to this critical change to perceive the faith through light, learning, love and liberty over dogma, doctrine and denomination.
Arriving at The Great News
The Great News Network (TGNN) is the culmination of decades of independent exploration, teaching, and a deep commitment to uncovering and sharing transformative truths about faith. Our story is one of questioning traditions, challenging norms, and building a platform to inspire others to embrace spiritual freedom.
The Roots of The Great News Network
The Great News Network was founded by Shawn McCraney, an artist, religious philosopher, teacher, and seeker of truth. His personal journey began within the structured confines of institutional religion, and over time, his experiences and studies led him to develop a unique perspective on faith—one that emphasized personal relationships with God, freedom from fear-based doctrines, and the fulfillment of biblical promises.
Shawn’s initial efforts included:
- Deconstructing Mormonism: Through the live call-in show Heart of the Matter (HOTM) starting in 2006.
- Verse-by-Verse Biblical Studies: Teaching scripture with contextual depth through what was then known as C.A.M.P.U.S. Church.
- Publishing Books: Challenging religious norms and offering fresh perspectives on Christianity.
The Shift Toward The Great News
In 2021, Shawn began articulating the principles of what would become The Great News, as a culmination of several theological findings he discovered over the course of his public teachings. Rooted in Subjective Christianity and Fulfilled Eschatology, this perspective emphasized:
- Personal Faith Over Institutions: The idea that individuals can connect directly with God without institutional mediation.
- Freedom from Fear: Rejecting doctrines that use fear of punishment to enforce belief.
- Living in Love and Truth: Centering faith around agape love and personal spiritual growth.
This shift also inspired the creation of new platforms, including the online educational hub Christian Ultra Libertarians for Truth (CULT) and the collaborative community Yeshuans.
Launching The Great News Network
In 2023, The Great News Network officially launched as a streamlined culmination of the widespread efforts Shawn and ministry volunteers and collaborators had been and were still conducting over the previous decades. The Great News Network organizes those efforts into channels and initiatives dedicated to sharing the radically liberating principles. TGNN now encompasses seven channels, each contributing uniquely to the mission:
- Heart of the Matter (HOTM): Engaging discussions on faith and religion.
- Verse by Verse Teachings: In-depth Bible studies exploring scripture’s fulfilled perspective.
- CULT: Online courses that empower spiritual growth and freedom.
- Yeshuans: A platform for creative expressions of faith.
- I Don’t Get the Bible: A father-daughter podcast demystifying scripture.
- Christian Peace Initiative: Promoting unity among Christ-affirming individuals.
- A United Front: Fostering harmony across diverse faith traditions.
